Dip Sticks for Dummies

2006 Liberty 3.7L, Auto Trans, Command Trac

So I finished up the major service on the Liberty today:

New tires and rims
Installed new coolant recovery tank
Swapped out the PCV valve
Replaced the two forward O2 sensors
Changed the fluid in both axles, the t-case, and the auto transmission
Installed new transmission filter
Cleaned, rust treated, and painted the transmission pan
Installed a replacement radio with an aux cable jack
Put on new rotors and pads all the way around
New rear shocks
Doused any rust with Metal Ready, a POR-15 Product.
And a bunch of other stuff I have forgotten.

BUT---I calculated that the transmission gave up about 5 quarts of fluid. And not wanting to risk overfilling I put in 4.5 quarts. After driving about 10 miles I stopped in a level place and checked the dipstick with engine running and transmission in park.

Fluid is at bottom "Cold" hole. Just at the tip of the stick when hot.

Question is how much to I need to add to bring it between the hot holes?

Half a quart? Full quart? Dunno. Just don't want to overfill it.

Add & bit, check-repeat until the Jeep is Happy in the "HOT ZONE" ha ha..
My jeep includes a small funnel with rubber hose set up, go slow, no spills...

When I did my transmission I let it drain for a long time. I ended up putting much more than I expected.

07's don't have a trans dipstick,how are you measuring?

Same thing I was wondering....must have a long finger

also new shocks but no new springs on the rear ?

Nope. I love the saggy look it has, can't you tell? And it rides like a buckboard, why make it harsher?

I let it drain for over two days and nights. I think at least another quart drained out. So I'm going slow putting the fluid back in. Added half a qt today. Will see where that brings it next hot drive.

Harsher ??? LOL funny
It would ride 100 times better
I bought my 04 brand new, within a week I knew the stock suspension sucked
before it had 20,000 miles on it ( 5 months ) it had all new OME suspension
Rode like it should have from the factory , front and rear springs both should of been about 40-50 lbs heavier to handle the weight
I bet if you rode in mine 20 miles you couldn't wait to change from your saggy look
