I have a 2006 CRD with just over 126k as of yesterday 3/8/19 my transmission starting acting up. Not sure if im suppose to but i start it up when its cold out and idle in netural and i have a deeper oil pan in it. I started it yesterday went into gear fine picked my son up from school did some driving around about a hours worth picked up my other son left it idle in netural to circulate the fluids which i thought was ok not sure if it is, left getting my 2nd son and went into gear delayed then going down the road about 55 was running 3000 to 3500 rpms i hurried home didn't want to be stranded on the side of the road pulled in drive way wouldnt go into drive or reverse. Got my father snap on scanner had a couple codes now mind u i have changed the both filters twice now since ive owed it from 85k the codes i got yesterday where P0868, P0841,P0876, P0944. I cleared the codes and everything was fine today but drove around and delayed going into gear drove home the only code then was the P0944, im at a loss here. I read around the internet and filter could be plugged or cracked . What are some possibilities i have a filter kit 3 in fact should i change it again or is there something else. Ive read the engine and transmission signals dont get along so well and suggestions would be helpful were to start thanks

Welcome to the forum.
Low trans fluid or plugged filter may cause the P0944.
Do you have a trans pan that is deeper.. which one? You did say deeper oil pan.
Deeper pans do require more trans fluid.
On level ground when hot or driven after 25 minutes, check the dip stick level and make sure it is at the full line, or better ...just slightly above.
I assume you are using the correct auto trans fluid which is ATF+4 right?

Where on the dipstick does it sit when hot at full line or slight above?
I would try adding a half a quart more & see if that make a difference stick reading may be off...
When you last changed the fluid was there any particles in the pan or shavings?
Loosing gears not good- is a sign of loss of pressure as well or a solenoid.
Hopefully it is not the fluid pump, but code does also mean prime.

Yup can be over filled let see where it is when hot.
No more than slightly above full when hot. Don't want any bubbly cavitation going on.

Transmission dipsticks on some CRDs are too long. Mine hits the bottom of the pan and eventually pushes the dipstick grip/cap up above the tube. It also gives false readings. I ziptied mine down to keep a lid on it. With the deep pan you probably don't have any bottoming issues but you still might be getting a false reading.

Some folks have added fluid above the full mark and got rid of odd behaviors. Since yours was fine and then developed problems without recent changes to fluid level there may be bigger problems. Adding extra fluid is easier than anything else so it might be worth a try.

Did you change the filters yourself? There's a seal on the flat-filter tube that needs proper installation or it could suck air. Also heard of one owner whose internal spin-on filter came loose.

The only thing i noticed when i took the pan off was the filter fell out after i took the screw off so it must of dislodge itself with these bad Michigan winter roads there were metal shavings on the magnets but barely enough to cover your pinky nail refilled the transmission ill let u know if anything else turns up in a couple days
