I have an 02 and other than the known things about the Liberty such as gas mileage I totally love it for my daily driver. That said I may have a lead on a super low mileage 07 Sport and wondering about any opinions on that model year. Not crazy about the Sport's crappy wheels and seats but if I get it for what I think I might be able to get into it for I could probably find some Limited seats, have them recovered and still come out cheap.

Are there some known issues that were not in the earlier models that could bite me?

Other than frontend and it being slightly lower isn't the basic model the same from 02-07?

42RLE ******, I'd make sure the TC is failing. It'll have ABS/TC/ESP all the electronic crap so if you don't want that, get an 05. Other than that, no big differences. Some 07s had an open cooling system instead of closed.

Throttle and cruise are fly by wire.
Diff ring bolts are metric.

Ive not had a lick of problems with my 07,or my 06.

I've had my 06 for half a year now. No issues other than replacing the right front bearing assembly and the power steering pump. Both of those were bad when I bought it. It had 150K on the clock.

I just got this in on the Liberty:

"The main reason was that the car had an aftermarket switch installed to turn off the air conditioner"

I hope to run by and check it out by Friday.

So checked it out today. Outside, clean but covered in Bernie Sanders stickers on the back and NRA stickers on the doors. Told them that was a bit down sell and no telling what it did to the paint under it. Would like to meet the Sanders supporter who is also very pro 2nd.

AC has a manual cut off wired to a switch in the cab under the steering wheel. They came right off the connector on the compressor and it completely disables it. The reasoning behind that is it appears the climate control is whacked. While it will switch from hot to cold air and both work very well it will not switch to anything but defrost vents. No selection appears to move any of the actuators. You don't hear any vent movement or motor movement behind the dash, even inside to outside air makes no difference.

Not sure if that is the climate control switch behind the dash or something far more involved. All other electrics seem to work just fine.

I gave them an offer, they didn't accept, we are about $2,000 apart. Told them I just couldn't do what they say they have in it with the climate control being that way. Not on a Sport even with such low mileage.

What they have "in it" is irrelevant.. and I feel free to tell sellers that all the time. I don't care if you had to put a $2500 engine in this thing.. It's still worth what it's worth. It's still a 10-16 year old KJ. If you had to put a million dollars into it in order to get it back to normal, working order... that crap ain't worth $10,002,500.

Stand your ground
When I bought the 03 , I found it just as people were trading it in to a dealer
Talked to the original owners , but when asking dealers price it was way up there. Took it home over night, made out my list of things wrong and prices ( including labor rates) Told the dealer how much I would give them OH MY GOSH I was robbing them blind LOL
In the end after two days of haggling got it for less than I initially said I would pay since I kept offering less !
So never feel like oh they have this much in it so I have to pay that amount

Personally I like the look of the 06-07 kjs with the renovated front clip and as a bonus the front end is much easier to remove than prefacelift kjs. The seats are also reworked but I’m not sure for the better. Overall they’re basically the same vehicle so it’s just personal presence and condition of vehicle IMO.

So going back to the AC "engineering" does anyone have some ideas on what could be going on? I can't hear the actuators move or switch at all. Hot and Cold do switch the actual temp.

They have come back a lot lower than we initially talked over the weekend. I am pretty much sold on it, still about 500 more than I wanted to spend.

Seats at least the Limited Leather ones are horrible in the 05-07s
I have 03 Limited in my 03 and 04, great seats set well very comfortable
My 05 I HATE driving it due to the seats and its a Limited. When I can find an earlier modle set of seats they will be switched out

Would still run away, no matter the price
Who knows what all is screwed up
At this point they just want it off their lot so that it is someone else's problem

The little I sat in it the seats were far better than the 02/03 Sport seats which were small and hard. I pulled the build sheet and it looks like it got upgraded to a power front seat so it may in fact have the Limited seats.

I'm going to run back over there tomorrow and put my Bluetooth Code reader on it. Didn't even think about taking it over the weekend. That will show me any existing codes which if the vacuum line is out it should through that code. I'll also do the key ignition trick to pull any codes. It passed an inspection recently to have the tags xferred locally, granted some shops will fudge those when they can.

Key trick will not work on later models

as far as seats, 05-07s are much flatter, no support to them either sides nor back.
Between the 03 and 04 after switching to 03 LIMITED seats in both I have over 140-150,000 miles of butt ( driving ) time, and on the 05 have about 35-40,000 of butt time
HUGE difference

You are determined, for some reason, aren't you in buying this ...........

Have to agree my 02 limited seats are pretty comfy ... and every single limited seat I’ve seen in 05-07 have massive tears in them. But they look nice [emoji106]

It has some sort of upgraded seat with a fixed headrest, power driver seat. They are flatter than the 02 but not uncomfortable. It was ordered to be used as a rental car, 1 year in service. Build sheet shows Customer Preferred Package 2TB and Customer Preferred Package 29B. Thought the one was the towing package but I don't see the towing wires and it doesn't have both fans, just the electric one. Also no Fog lights but betting they are all wired for them.

Scan tool showed a P0882, clean otherwise with engine temp sitting right at 192 on the highway. Some old owner paperwork showed they had done 3,000 mile oil changes, differentials serviced, didn't see anything about any transmission service but at 35,000 miles it shouldn't have.

Yeap I'm sold. Told them to get it processing. Just can't pass up a 35,000 mile vehicle for this price and that clean.
