I have a 2002 jeep liberty 4x4, i just changed all of the ball joints and tie rod ends and installed Bilstein 4600s and OME coils. I have a rattle noise that almost sounds like a loose bolt with a washer rattling or something. It will rattle during idle but tends to rattle more after driving and stopped at a red light. I have tried to pin point it but it hardly does it if you just crank it in the driveway and let it idle.. Any ideas? TIA

Just carefully go back over every single bolt and nut you had off during install. Hard to tell you what to look for when we can not hear the noise or know what all you took off, removed, replaced, touched during install

Yea I understand, i have climbed under this thing, retorqued and touched about every single component i can... It is about to drive me insane, any little change in idle when stopped at a redlight it rattles along with it.. Odd thing is it seemed to have appeared after an oil change... I have used a stethoscope and tried all areas of the motor and everything sounds normal, you put it on the chassis and you can here it... If it would rattle as much as it does at a redlight in my driveway i could figure it out

Speaking of that oil filter change Tomm, i wonder if it could be something with the filter or something.

Check the heat shields over the cats
I had a noise on the 04 at one point, drove me crazy, only did it during idle or low RPM then go away, never did it in park.
Finally had a buddy put it in gear while I was under there and that is what I found. Little bend and all solved

Swampbandit did you finally find the source of the noise?

Havent had time, i notice that it rattles more with the brake applied, I got other issues now, my wife opened my sunroof the other night and all the plastic guides broke... Seems like a hell of a job to fix it too, thinking off maybe getting it to go in the closed position to the way it seals then unplugging the switch to open and close it and hope it doesnt leak :favorites68:

Yeah if you can get the sunroof closed it should seal up. If the noise is more prevalent when brakes applied I'd start looking at the brakes.

Finally found what was making the noise, it is a bracket that mounts to the front dif bracket, it almost feels like plastic and i do not see what purpose it has. it had a little adjustment on one side but i moved it as far as i could and it is still rubbing and making noise after driving for a while.. Anybody know if i can just remove this piece of plastic...

I have tried to post a picture but i cant figure out how too

It is on the front end of the front diff, attaches to the front diff bracket with a 10mm screw on the drivers side and like a 13mm on the passenger side, the bracket runs right behind the oil filter

It appears that someone has installed an home made / aftermarket skid and that is where it is hitting the sway bar . I would remove that to see if it takes care of the noise. Then if so cut that ear part way off of the skid. Appears someone made it if I'm looking right

The only thing right there on all of mine ( just checked ) is the oil drain for the oil filter
but looks way different on yours , something has been added

Tomm it in fact was the oil drain. I never would have even thought about that but once you mentioned it and I climbed under the vehicle it is obvious that that is what it is, i was able to move it around some and get it to quite for now. I tried to pull the hole thing out of there but i got tired of fighting it. Thanks a bunch!
