I have a 2003 Jeep liberty and it has been running grate but today I was pulling in my driveway after driving adout 30 miles and my oil light came on! As soon as it came on I shut it off! Anyone know what it could be? I'm hoping it's a oil pressure sensor or something. Anyone know how i can test to see if it's a sensor? The engine is the 3.7L v6.
The first thing I did was check the oil and it's full!

More than likely its the oil sender unit , ( mounted right above the oil filter) Replace with a MOPAR one .

easier to just replace the sensor, I replaced mine last year after my light would come on at various times, Hasn't come on since. Like Tom said go with the OEM Mopar only.

i'm with tom. it's one of the few things that drives me crazy about chryslers of the 2000+ years, is the oil pressure switches they use are crap.

Is it safe to drive to the parts store?. I don't really want to drive it with the oil light on but it's my only vehicle at the moment

Is there any noise coming from the engine when the light is on?
If not it’s probably just a bad sensor.

the $3500 question!

I would not drive it anywhere with the oil light on!
Your oil strainer or filter might be clogged. No oil flow?
The port to the oil sensor could also be clogged and thats it?
So if you change the oil filter & sensor or hook up a pressure gauge to the oil sensor port and see what happens.

Maybe someone has a suggestion on how to measure oil pressure by just cranking it and watch the oil flow? just dont let it start that way.
