So I went to vac my car out as usual. Took out my weathertech floormats and noticed the bottom of them was damp. Pulled out my interior and seat, and the floor was soaking wet (enough to be able to ring out the carpet and have water pour out). Water was sitting in the channel where the wires run. Also went into the rear. No water on the back or passenger side at all.

Rained the next day, and I pulled the headliner, no water coming from the lightbar or the roof antenna. No water above the wire channel in the front. Just seems to be contained to the wire channel. Those floor plugs seem to just be like sponges, is it possible the water is coming up through there while driving? I am stuck here, and it seems as if the water has been sitting awhile. Any ideas?

It could so many things - A/C drain clogged, heater coil, plug between the firewall and cabin, weatherstrip around the door. Just a few.

Mine is doing the exact same thing. But on both sides. And yes it fills the wire channels up full.. very scary. And annoying. I also have weathertech. They do a good job at conserving the water so it can't dry... love them otherwise. Here is what I've done and found.. what I ruled out.. Not sun roof. Not light bar. Not roof rack.. I then went to the base of the windshield. Removed the wiper arms and removed plastic cowl. So I could see the wiper mech and air intake for hvac.. it was a waste of time. The water is comming in from the sides of the dash. Way up high. I removed the left front fender and still could not see anything. It's in the body steel. Between the body steel that's under the fender and the steel that the dash is bolted to on the sides.. so I located the leak on the pass side. Was the gromet that the ant wire goes through. I sealed that up... and drilled holes in the wire channels. Also the water drips down the fuse box on the drivers side... this is fkn bad.. I feel chrysler should be held responsible for this.. I guess it takes a few burned cars and deaths for anything to happen. So in the end . The next rain came and floors were soaked again.. drilling holes didn't do shit... very pissed about this. What makes this worse 10 fold. It's my wife's jeep... so I get to hear the constant ******** and worrying about a fire.

Wait for a dry spell when everything has had a chance to dry out well. Then run your garden hose over isolated spots on the exterior. Don't just spray down the whole windshield, etc., because that won't tell you anything. Once the water starts to roll in you'll know the problem is under the area you are currently hosing down

EDIT: Don't use the spray nozzle. Just the hose, so there is a tightly controlled stream over a very small area.

...and worrying about a fire.
Tell her that the water is a safety measure mandated by the NHTSA to suppress fires. :happy175:

It is unlikely that it would cause a fire... just mostly annoying and will eventually rust out my floor.

Have you found the source of the water ingress?

Water Leak on Drivers Side - Resolved

OK so my daughters 2006 Jeep Liberty has about 1/2 inch of water on the drivers side floor after yesterday's downpour. Note, she has a sunroof. I opened the sunroof and poured water on front right lip where the glass would be if the sunroof was closed. The water just sat there. I did the same on the passenger side and the water immediately drained under the jeep behind the front passenger tire so this told me the drivers side sunroof drain was clogged. I unscrewed the drivers side sun visor and clip (3 screws) as well as the drivers side hand brace that runs down the left side of the drivers side windscreen and that allowed me to access the drain tube and underside of the ceiling. You will see the black sunroof drain tube running down from the ceiling to behind the dash on the drivers side. Next I tried to free up the clog using a long thin pipe cleaner and as soon as I did that the water drained right out under the jeep however I wanted to make sure there was no more debris present so I took apart the connection at the sunroof (this connection is under the ceiling panel a little was back from the drivers side sun visor. There was a small acorn type pellet stuck in the tube where it connects to sunroof. I cleared it all out and the water now drains just fine. The big test comes during the next rain storm but I'm thinking this solves my problem. This can work on both passenger side and drivers side water leak problems for Liberty's with sunroofs.

I had a really bad leak on the passengers side (l'm in Aus so your drivers side) this forum led me to the vent under the front cowl, pulled that off and sealed it up with roofing silicon. Problem solved!
A week later the same thing happened on the other side, I have pulled the cowl off to look but cant see where it could be coming from. It pours out under the dash, enough to fill the floor pan front and rear after a good downpour. I cant see that much water coming from the sunroof with no evidence of moisture abwhere else but behind the das and the floor.
Any ideas?

I have a 2007 KJ Cherokee Ltd with a sunroof. The sunroof has leaked since new and due to our heavy tropical downpours exceeding the capabilities of the drain tubes. The water overflows into the roof/head liner and then when the front of that is full, it runs down the front door pillar covers and drowns the Body Control Module (BCM) on its way into the foot wells. The display unit in the overhead console and the BCM fill up with condensation. Eventually, the BCM starts false triggering of headlights, door locks and accessory relays and you can find the battery is flat.

By removing the internal fuse panel cover and using a hot air gun and/or a fan, I can dry out the end of the dash where the BCM is located until everything starts working again.

No factory fix was available under warranty.

I got tired of puling the seats and floor matting out to get rid of the water, and now put tape over the sunroof gasket area of the sunroof, to seal from the roof to the glass panel. The tape I use is this TESA PVC stuff 48mm wide and I change it every few months: https://adhesivetapes.com.au/product/tesa-51485-pvc-protection-tape
