Hi everyone,

Newbie owner here. I need the advice of more knowledgeable owners on an issue my Liberty is experiencing recently (this week). I bought this after my previous vehicle caught fire on Valentine’s Day this year (2018). I have owned the vehicle for four months or so.

Thanks in advance.

2003 Liberty Sport 3.7L auto 4x4
105,*** miles on vehicle

the vehicle needs the 100,000 mile service:
tune-up (plugs, air filter, fuel filter, ect)
transmission filter/fluid change
x-fer case fluid change

Rebuilt the front end and aligned the vehicle. Also, rebuilt the brake system and A/C system. I mention this FWIW.

No codes set.

The issue I am experiencing is a slight "tug" during deceleration in speed (between 25 to 30 mph and 1,000 to 1250 rpm). Not a jolt but a definite tug. Take you foot off the gas and apply the brakes this happens every time. It feels like the transmission is downshifting a bit hard. Transmission fluid level shows between marks. One note, the fluid is not translucent red, just a bit of orange-ness to it.

Does this sound like a known issue with this MY? Do I need to see a transmission man?

These trans are trash compared to the 4R70W I had in my previous 5.0 explorer. I wish I had a manual trans in this jeep.

That said, mine was shifting hard. 97xxx miles at the time. Like 4K+ it would slam into gear. If you were not "getting on it" it would shift smoothly. Thing is, its lifted and has larger tires, the 3.7 can only do so much so yah gotta wring her out.

Got a trans flush and its at least 50% better and its smoother overall in its operation.

Last trans fluid flush was around 60xxx for it according to carfax.

So yeah, trans fluid flush really can be night and day difference.

Thanks everyone. Appreciate the input.

To verify....I do not need to have the transmission rebuild most likely.

That is why you regear , plus like anything else take care of it, it will take care of you . Most people run a transmission until it fails then ***** about it being junk
