gas tank recall- am i getting the shaft?

Hello.

After some time- it's time to get the gas tank recall done. the one where they fit a trailer hitch. went to JEEP Israel - all happy and waiting to get my trailer hitch - and finally tow and get a decent recovery point - however what i got was a steel part that looks exactly like the trailer hitch but had no 2 inch square opening for towing and stuff.

I was pissed off...so i talked to the shop and they said that Jeep does not provide a real trailer hitch like this one:

they give you this strange non hitch trailer hitch.



has anyone had this sort of a problem?

Have you ever found a document that states the specific part that should be installed within this recall?

At 1st all they could get was the actual hitch but later on,like starting months ago,you only got the protection without the receiver unless you have the tow package and your original hitch was to rusted.

Yep. Basically, if you already had a tow hitch but it didn't provide the required protection, then you got a Jeep - approved tow hitch. If you didn't have a hitch fitted, then they fit a protective beam.

Glad I got in early and got a real Jeep trailer hitch. It's been useful so far, I'm surprised I lived so long without one.

I just saw a pre-recall KJ today in the parking garage at work. That's the first one I've seen in a long time.

My Renegade doesn't have a hitch. Does the Gas Tank Skid Plate count recall wise?
