Looking to get a ODB 2 reader to supplement my tool so that I can see it in real time and get more info at my fingertips through a GUI(I miss seeing real data on my dash like my Dodge had). Didn't see any search results that were within the last year, so I made a new thread.

I see the most popular one on Amazon(Link) doesn't do iOS but does do android(and apparently Windows PC's). Does this mean if I get a cheap tablet, I can use that in place of a smart phone(I only have a iPhone and a iPad mini)?

Also, will something like the apps these use store data that I can hand over to a mechanic/technician to help diagnose a problem? Does anyone know how in depth the reading these take are? Would they be able to pull values from the transmission/clutch/transfer case to maybe help diagnose my rumble strip noise problem? Thanks in advance.

They are pretty simple not diving into trans temp or gears and stuff. More just rpm coolant temp battery voltage 02 sensor reading intake air temp. They work on how many sensor your vehicle offers new cars give more data. I use a wifi obd thing with dash command on my iphone.

I use an app called Torque and have a bluetooth device plugged into the obd2 port. It's reasonably basic, but can read and clear faults plus revs, coolant, battery, etc.

Let us know if the tablet works. I might get one too. I use Torque on my HTC phone and something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Scanner-Gemw...rd_wg=uXvp9&psc=1&refRID=XWNSTV7EQBPM3XTWXEZQ

Well, I don't have the reader yet(gonna order one and a cable tomorrow(didn't factor reader form factor when riding) when my paycheck clears), but the tablet supposedly had GPS according to questions on the Best Buy site. It appears it doesn't. I loaded two GPS apps into it and left it on the dash of the Jeep for ~10 minutes and not a single satellite was picked up. My old Garmin had a signal within 2 minutes and by 5 was in all green signal wise. Gonna order one of these as well: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-ME176CX-A1-WH-7-Inch-Tablet-White/dp/B00KC7VY3S

Less screen size, white, but name brand, 2x the on board memory, and twice the expandable memory.
