I have been troubleshooting airbag light staying on. Checked clockspring, front sensors, etc, all seem ok. Does the Airbag control module check the seatbelt status as part of it's checks? On the driver side I know that would be the seat belt latch, does it check the pyro device that locks the drives side seatbelt too?
I got the diagram for wiring to the Airbag Control module, it shows seat belt wires going to it, so I am assuming it checks at least the latch.
Strange thing is, whether I have the driver's side seat belt latched or not, with the latch wiring harness connected or disconnected, and am driving or not, the seatbelt light ALWAYS goes out. No chimes either.
Am wondering if this may indicate a bad module or a wiring issue? :emotions34:
thanks,
ds

lol have this problem intermittently...it's from my kids kicking the wires under my seat. all I usually have to do is make sure they're straight on the holder and securely plugged in. may or may not be your problem but thats what makes my light have issues. I know you stated plugged or not but might be a good place to start.

I doubt that the seatbelt light is relevant to the ABS problem. Check the seatbelt connectors and check with a meter if the contact inside the belt latch is working.

If you still have the original clockspring I would replace it...they get brittle with age and develop hair-cracks.

Check that the leads coming from the airbag connector into the harness are in good shape and if there is a connector involved check that connector.....my RHD Export CRD has a 2 foot length of cable going from the airbag connector into a small connector behind the knee protection panel. This connector gave me multiple problems so I removed it and soldered the wires straight through. This small connector has a flat metal plate inside it that drops down when the connector is opened and shorts out all the pins to stop back EMF firing off the airbags. I am not sure if the LHD USA models have this connector.

There are multiple recalls for the early KJs for airbag problems...go down to the section "Technical Service Bulletins and Recalls" to read about them.

When working on the airbag system always completely disconnect the battery and short the red battery lead to chassis for 30 minutes to discharge any capacitance in the system.

My airbag light stays on also. Mechanic put it on the computer and said it was the plug under the driver seat. Probably from my littlr dog crawling through there to sit in front.

Probably a high resistance connection somewhere. The right scanner can tell you the resistance at each connection. My LR3 has had an air bag light and it was a dirty connection behind the steering wheel.

Followed some of the suggestions, checked under seat connections etc. Also looked at TSBs. Seems mine did have a recall and it has not been done. Good thing, becasue after all the troubleshooting the last thing I did was pull the ACM and test the seatbelt wire(s) continuity to the connector. Curiousity got the best of me, I took the ACM apart and looks like some blown chips. Will get the dealer to do the recall fix and see what I get.
