So I have a 2008 Jeep Liberty and the 4wheel shifter says 2hi,4hi,N,4lo. When I pull it to 4hi it says partime. Is this normal? If not how do I get it in 4hi and out of part time?

Thanks,

Joe

You sure it's an 08? Technically that's a KK and a different part of this forum. I know KJ 02-07 will show part time when in 4hi.

Read the manual.

Part-time means to only use it part time, and not on roads with good traction.

The transfer case has the front an rear wheels locked together.

Some transfer cases also have 4wd full, where the transfer case can turn front and or rear wheels, but there not locked. If you have this transfer case you can use 4wd full all the time if you want.

Your transfer case is not a full time transfer case. If it was. It would have a full time Position. And would go like this. 2wd,4hi part time , 4hi full time, N, 4 low part time. Yours does not have the 4hi full time position. So It is intended to only be used on snow, mud ,or other loose surfaces. If you drive it on dry pavement or other hard surface you will destroy the transfer case.
