I can hardly imagine an engine using that much oil and not fowling the plugs by the second quart of oil. Much less plugging the converters. Catalysts are pretty finely built, precision components. That much oil would be like having an injector spraying it onto their inlet surface. They'd be sealed over with carbon in less than a week.

I did have one shady ass used car dealer who had me keep a case of aircraft oil on hand for the heavy smokers (pre converter days). Stuff will burn and leave a chalky white tail pipe.

Well now my oil pressure light has come on, and my oil is still full after my trip to Arkansas, im wanting to say my oil sending unit has failed, but I'm not sure how to replace it. I think its next to the starter, but I could be wrong. But after doing about 400-500 miles my oil didnt drop but an 1/8th of an inch, still this consumption is worrying me but i can't do anything about it really at until i get a Jeep dealership to look it over. Also something fun to note, i was 4 wheelin yesterday hit a huge rut dead on at about 7 mph and i think i broke something, like a front axle or some shit. Hope that doesn't affect our drive back to Dallas.

Hopefully it's just the sending unit. The sender is above the oil filter. It's a common leak point too.

The only time my 02 ever lost oil between changes was because of the sender. It eventually triggered the light and then I replaced it and realized how bad it was leaking. Make sure you get a sender for a switch, not a gauge,

well the dealership has concluded there is a leak, but they can not locate it so they have placed a red dye into the crankcase in hopes of finding the leak... i dont like the dealership tho, I had every fluid replaced in the KJ ($1200 later) and now im walking away with a leaking rear diff, and transmission... they also let my KJ roll off the lot with 2qrts of transmission fluid missing from the trans.. $40 later of a butt load of atf+4 ive already used 2 more qrts keeping my trans topped off. im never going back to southpoint dodge in austin texas again. unless this problem is resolved for free... im going in tommorow at 7am to have them fix all this crap, and im making damn sure that im not paying a dime for all the mistakes theyve made.. at this point im also going to have them examine for the DYE since its been a week, and 2qrts of 5w30 later. about 600-700 miles.. ill post again where the leak was. considering my oil light is on, and i cant find where the leak is myself. im saying its the sending unit. if so im pretty sure i could fix this myself. the owners manual says to NOT operate the jeep with the oil light on but ive done about 3000 miles with it on as well as 500 of those miles where at 5800rpm pretty sure the ol girl is ganna be alright. but for having 180k miles on the clock i think the trans is ganna go before the engine, but the engine may shit the bed if I dont get this stupid oil leak found and fixed. did i mention southpoint dodge overfilled my coolant resivour ha ha. litteraly 1.5" below the pressure cap. i was pissed. esspecially since they broke my rear window regulator by rolling it down so far it hit my aftermarket speakers causing the motor to blow, AND breaking a volt meter i have installed behind the selec trac due to a recall for the airbags or whatever all in all im pissed f*** southpoint dodge if u live in austin dont ever go to southpoint they hate liberty's and i hate them and we should also go to hidden falls :D

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
With high mileage it's very common for leaks to occur after fluid replacement of the diffs and trans.

Synthetic gear oil likes to leak even in a diff that never leaked before, conventional gear oil usually takes care of that.

For the trans ATF has a very high concentration of cleaners which will clean out gunk that was previously plugging a leak from old ATF(with depleted cleaners).

If your leaking 2+qts in a few hundred miles it's going to be very easy to spot, you will be leaving puddles as it will be dripping oil.It has to,no way can it otherwise leak that amount.

the dealership said the diff wasnt meaking so im assuming the fluid was just coming out of the rubber rill plug.. and the dealership also said my trans wasnt leaking and that it was my powersteering pressure line, i told them no its the trans because im having to constantly refill it and everywhere i park there is a big ass puddle under the trans pan no the freaking PS pump, i hate this dealership so much.. they said provide proof the trans is leaking and they will drop the pan and redo the service for the trans. and ill agree that atf+4 is a hell of a cleaner and may have punched a pin hole into the rtv but the fact the dealer isnt going to stand by their work is what ****** me off, im ganna show them pictures of my driveway and everywhere I park for the next week as well as drops of atf coming off my pan and see what they have to say then.

no response on the dye, little disapointed about that condiering its a major issue that needs fixing. oh well ill wait another week another 1000 miles and see what they have to say..

Not saying they're right, but it could be the PS, if you've used ATF+4 with it and it's getting blown back. I think the best way to prove it is to have them check the fluid level, take it for a drive and check it again. If it's leaking that bad, there should be a noticeable drop on the dipstick.

It's all for ***** and giggles until someone giggles and *****.

Good luck! Let us know how this turns out, especially now that the trans mysteriously stopped leaking.
