I'm needing a cylinder head due to over heating and dropped valve seat on a 2002 Liberty LTD 3.7L.
GROAN.

My old head has a cast in # of 53020984 and beneath that is has 9R D.

My Q. is the "9R D" portion important or do I just focus on the 53020984 portion ?

I don't think the lower numbers matter. Not sure what the 9 would be but the R May be for Right and the heads have a D shaped combustion chamber. I know all the ones I ve looked at only had the 984 part number for the right head.

I’ve seen a few pictures that claim to be the same part number with 3RD, I think it’s just a casting revision or something .
Far as fit goes 2001-2012 the 3.7 block and heads interchange.
Only things you have to look out for is the reluctor on the right side (with the Camshaft sensor) is a different reluctor 2005 to 2012 but all you have to do is swap the correct 2002 part in.

On the left side it’s a EGR valve port which is not there on some US models although you can see the place for it. The answer for a head with s EGR port on a engine that doesn’t have one is use the original exhaust manifold which has no connection to the EGR or source/Buy block off plates.
