Hi all, I just purchased a 2006 3.7 jeep liberty with 120k miles and the bank 2 cat is bad so i am looking at replacing both and wanted to see if you had any suggestions on brand.

I am in New York State but the car is not a California emission car.

Ideally i would get oem but they are about 900-1200 and i only paid 1500 for the car so that is not the ideal option.

I wanted to see if anyone had experience with the walker replacements or other brands. I see that it looks like the walker replacement changes it from a 2 cat system to a one if im correct?

I also noticed some other brands like Bosal on the advance auto parts website that look like a direct fit with 2 universals on it.

Any links to recommended parts or suggestions from people with experience would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: I have done a little more looking and it looks like the Magnaflow 49 state cat PN: 49186 may be the best option?

Thanks!!

Cheaper option would be to get a universal cat for $50-$75 and have it welded in. It'd be a lot cheaper than the $800+ for the Magnaflow you posted. I don't see why it wouldn't work.

If you have emission tests you only have 2 choices...................

OEM cats

OEM cats sold under the originating manufacture label(walker/dynomax),these will be sold as 50 state legal with CARB certifications and slightly less then OEM cats.

OEM/originating manufacturer cats = up to 95+ efficiency

49 state legal cats = 66% efficiency

48 state and any "universal" cat = 33% or less efficiency

At the yearly inspection they seem to mainly be concerned with obd codes as far as emissions go. As long as it clears the codes i wonder if a non california cat would ever get noticed.

Its not like the pre obd days where they actually put a tester in the tailpipe.

I don't think they care in MD. They just check for codes BUT they do visually inspect the underside. I always got questioned before they looked underneath when I had the 02 with the Borla. I'd always get the "I think your muffler is shot" until they looked. It had a nice rumble at idle.
