Somewhere between being sane and insane!
So for some background on this project. Started with pads and rotors for the front. Upon inspection on rear, driver side is flinging gear oil all over. Back of the brakes covered, bottom of tire dripping, etc.
I was planning on doing the rear brakes anyways, but now I have this problem to deal with also.
I think I may take a chance and only do the outers since its easier than tackling the shaft itself. Does anyone know how prone these seals are to failure and should I be changing both?

There is only 1 bearing and 1 seal on each side and the axle(s) must be pulled to either.Best to do both sides(2 bearings and 2 seals total).

Does that mean that the bearings aren't pressed onto the shaft?

No,the bearings are press fit in the axle tube behind the axle seal.

Chances are if the seal is leaking the bearing is worn, and again if the seal is leaking from a worn bearing the axle shaft could be worn also were the bearing contacts the axle shaft.

Any lip where the axle bearing and/or seal contacts the axle shaft always replace the axle with new bearing and seal.If your finger nail catches it(seal contact area) or you feel/see anything were the bearings rides replace that axle or you will get good at changing your brakes, axle seals, and bearings every few days(maybe a week or 2).

What is the actual bearing and seal that I need? I see a wheel bearing and seal kit, or a rear diff bearing?
