Optima Yellow Top or...?

I need a battery that can run an inverter with a small sound system, laptop and some low power lighting for a few hours at night while camping without draining the battery. I am sure that the Optima Yellow Top is up to task. Will primarily be used for starting, so I was looking at the Optima. Are there any cheaper batteries that might work well for this?

Optima's are not the quality they use to be.
Spherical design also has less CCA- coverage than a flat plate.
Camping, I also carry a separate booster pack- AGM, just in case you drain it too far.
If you want a very powerful, longer term deep cycle solution, buy the best an AGM Odyssey.
They often last 10 years!

You should always consider a deep cycle, not the brand name but the overall specification. Your driving and use, lot short trips or sitting in the Vehicle listing to music so do you more starting power or length of a charge for accessories.

This for the win, because you just never know. I do not have one, but I always thought I should get one. I'm so nervous about draining my battery to the point of no start that I strategically place my Jeep to roll and jump start if needed (Manual), never had to though YET

They can often be found low hours used for around $500 :deal:
Add one extended range fuel tank & you are good to go for days! :happy107:

Without any load specifications or usage time, we can't give you a direct answer.

I have a Yellow Top Optima battery and I'm not happy with it.
If I don't run my Liberty once and a while the Optima will die so completely that recharging can be difficult.

I recommend you find a marine deep cycle battery that is the same physical size as the stock battery.

You can never go wrong the the Odyssey PC1500DT,and they last.

Retired my original PC1500DT awhile back,still use it at work to power my smoke machine and have not charged it in about a year and tested it,still said good battery(but low charge) with 560 some CCA's out of the 850cca rated and that battery was built in July of 2007.

I now run a Odyssey PC1750(group 65 battery) in my KJ with a battery tray from SasquatchParts.com which is 950cca rated,last test it was showing 1330cca's.

I run a odyssey PC1500DT and it gets the job done and also has the extra cold cranking amps for those cold winter mornings.

I think Deka made batteries awesome deal. The AGM one for the KJ with an 8 year warranty was $120, AGM for the LR3 was $140 and a plain lead-acid one for the XJ was $100.

I purchased an X2 Power AGM Group 35 720cca in November 2016 from Batteries Plus. It's been running flawlessly so far. It's definitely bigger than necessary, so much so that I was concerned it would make contact with the hood. Also had to install it backwards, and the +/- are flipped, so the positive is closer to the fender. Other than that, its a great battery, and was recommended to me by the Overland Bound forum.

Why didn't you get the correct group 34 battery instead of a group 35?

Could have saved alot of headache,would have fit correctly,and have alot more juice then any group 35.

Batteries Plus doesn't carry a G34 in that brand that fits the Liberty. It wasn't a headache at all, slips right into the battery retention clip, and clears the hood just fine. Only thing that I thought could be a problem is the switch up of the +/- but it's been fine.

What part number did you go with? Can you please directly link it?

I have a 2002 KJ Limited and I’m looking to install the PC1750 battery as well.

I’m also considering upgrading the alternator and wiring.
My current diehard gold battery is about 5 or so years old and it dies if I don’t use the car every 10 days or so.

I currently have a 750W amp for my sub and a capacitor, I’m about to upgrade to two amps, one 4 channel 400W and a 1,000W for my subs.
I also just changed all my lights except instrumentation lighting to LEDs so hopefully that helps take some load off.

You guys think the stock alternator should be able to handle this new setup?

I’m strongly considering ditching the capacitor, since most of what I’m reading says it does more harm then good.

So I just read the entirety of the thread regarding this mod over at Lost Jeep.

Are you also running an 02 KJ? How hard was it for you to install this mod?
