My 06 Renegade (3.7 L) keeps going into limp mode, but, it only seems to happen when i've driven for several miles around town.

What happens is the car will have a hard downshift between 30-40 MPH and remain in second gear until the car is restarted. I can set the cruse control and the problem doesn't happen, only when accelerating between 30-40 MPH.

And the problem doesn't happen all the time. It seems to happen when the outside temperature is 85-100 degrees outside. Today was between 55-65 degrees outside and I didn't have an issue.

I did a lot of Googling on his issue and was wondering is the transmission temp sensor needs to replaced? Or is a solenoid failing if it gets to warm?

Are you getting a PO700 generic code?

Sounds like what mine was doing when the torque converter failed. I'd take it to a trans shop and have them scan it and look at the Clutch Value Indexes.

The way the shop explained it to is is that heat makes the clutches slip (whether that be the TC or like the reverse clutch etc).

An autozone free code read might pick up on the next level of codes beyond the key test. See if you get a PO740, that's a bad TC.
