Not sure I understand guys.

I cant imagine the .25" makes that big of a difference. Essentially the same as the Moabs that a lot of people run. With how ucb tires varry I'd be very surprised to be significantly outside the fenders.

I'm prepared to be enlightened though.

Based on dudes rubbing issue, I'm leaning 255 on the CRD. Though I'd really like to make 265 work. I'm not going more than 3.5" with my offset diff.

It comes into play when off road and the amount of tire you can stuff up in the fenderwells . With less backspacing on a 8 inch wide wheel you need to run more bumpstops so you don't tear the flares off when fully stuffed
8 inch wide / 5 inches of backspacing I can stuff a 265-75-16, with just a very little bit to spare, with any thing less it would tear the rear flares off .

I guess there is a difference in who wants looks and who likes to have as much travel as they can. I personally don't like to tear flares off when out in the fields or off roading

There is a reason why everyone used to recommend ( and a lot of us still do ) 7 inch wide with 4 inches of backspacing or 8 inch wide and 5 inch , cause it worked the best

Gotcha, well it seems to me with the slightly narrower 255 I may be able to get the best articulatuon without unwanted trail mods.

I thought the 7x4 and 8x5 BS were predominantly used because .25 increments were hard to achieve with readily available wheels/spacers.

Is there any argument for 265/70's?

With my 03 at 2.5 inches , moabs/ 265-70s etc etc and no bumpstops at all it just barely touches the flare when fully stuffed. But with only an inch of bumpstop its fine. Trying 3/4 inch next to see what happens

and as far as width/ backspacing . The many fine folks who started LOSTKJs ( now LOSTJEEPs ) and several others did a lot of testing of wheel widths/ backspacing in the early days to see what worked best all around. Of course fine tuning that over the last 15 years but still holds pretty true

I had planned to do 2 hockey pucks either way. So I guess my mind still isn't made up. I don't think I can make it up on flex alone.

I'm not re-gearing for now. From somebody who has run all the sizes, Will there be a big power/mpg difference between the 2 with a CRD. I can look at gear charts all day but it doesnt really give me that warm fuzzy feeling.
