My gap is bigger around fender wells with the lift and bigger tires then it was with factory tires and unlifted. It'll come together or come apart.

235-70-16s was an optional size, my 04 came with the 235-70s

Did some research when putting my tires on my jeep and found that I could fit those since they came stock on some.
So that's why I put them on my jeep.
But if you read the original post and the title thread, it's about fitting 265/75/16 on stock suspension.
So I added that my optional stock size tires(235/70/16 but not what came stock on mine) rubbed on my stock suspension and that going any further seems well.. as I said I couldn't imagine trying to stuff them in my wheelwell.
Putting 265/70/16s or close to them on a lifted liberty is different and I'm not going claim to be knowledgeable in that area and wouldn't have posted my own information, had it been for fitting them on a lifted libby..
No heat on my end, just explaining why I chimed in.
If he gets a lift, go for the tires. If he doesnt, dont. Guess I could've just said that instead lol

Never did anything to the steering stops on any lifted here or any of mine
When off road and flexing mine hit lower part of the liners pretty good at certain times
But then my front flexes out way more than most so could of been part of it

Jeep's been in 4 accidents from prior owners. No telling if everything is exactly where it should be. If I didn't mod the stops, I would be ripping off at least 1/2" of tread off the inner corner of the tire from the bottom pinch of the frame rails.

Plus I'm running stock wheels. Whether that has anything to do with it or not I don't know.

Since this has already went way off track might as well let it take another sort of turn.

It seems some don't really understand the IFS we have on the KJs and KKs . To start with when lifting them some go the spacer lift route. When using it suspension travel is limited to less than what a full spring lift is some what. You get some lift but due to the soft springs not much or sags even quicker. So you may run a tire that is very close to rubbing but due to limited travel you don't notice it much.

Full springs like OME has some more travel over stock BUT due to stiffer springs ( going from 310 to 400 ) it will not have as much as a softer spring does . But you get a better ride and height .

Now with the coilovers you get more suspension travel of course still limited to the way our suspension is designed but more than the other two.
This is where tire size, wheel width and backspacing come in to play also. Someone with a spacer lift maybe able to run a bit bigger tire due to the suspension only moving a small amount. Even very close like some I have seen but they get away with it where I couldn't due to more travel. PLUS I like some space around my tires.

Using spacers is one of those things that it helps in one way but creates issues in another way. KJ wheelwells are small , using spacers sits the tire out which creates a larger arc as the wheel travels through the turning. So when you are so close to hitting just lifted with larger tires and little room , wheel spacers are going to cause issues.

Back when I started doing lifts, I was also a suspension, brake and alignment tech ( early 70s ) cars and trucks had a lot more room but anymore it is a balancing act to make them perform well .

My 04 had over 200,000 miles lifted, learned a lot since when I got on the forums everyone said 2.5 inches was the highest you could go. We kept pushing the envelope to what we have now. Never had rubbing issues, CV or wheel bearing etc .

A lot of us have over 12-14 years modding these so when we suggest something we're not trying to start a ******* match as someone suggested, only sharing what we , and others have found out over that time.
Since I had to work and didn't get to preach this A.M. here it is now.
Go ahead cuss me out , call me nuts , whatever....:gr_grin:

Wanted to add that when suggesting to someone tire size, wheel width and backspacing , keep the above in mind. You maybe suggesting something that works for your, say spacer lift, but would cause issues with another kind.

Thats why a lot of times I'll ask for exact description of what they are going to use before I suggest something . Lots better than "here is what I have works great for me"

AND its another reason I get 25-30 PMs a week asking for clarification on the various forums and fakebook.

Me? My only suggestion was to the OP, who's running stock suspension, which is something I can relate to (sadly) so I offered my "here's what works for me.."
Basically to support your claim that stock tire sizes can rub from sagging stock suspension.. so my suggestion was to not go any larger than what occasionally rubs on mine.. but I apologize if my information given was misleading, as I do no claim to be an expert in tire/rim sizing. Shoot, I didn't know what back spacing was until I was 17, so I'm no expert.

If not directed at me, didn't mean to get in the middle of the "******* contest", it seems I've gotten soaked :ROFLjest:

It was meant for me Gunner. Me and Tom go at some but he does know what he is talking about. I'm just learning (maybe the hard way) but so far everything has worked out for me. What Tom says will work, what I do may or may not lol.

Sorry to spoil all the fun for everyone
BUT it was not directed at anyone at all.
I did use some quotes with out a release statement from those who posted them , but it was more trying to make a point.
After you been on some of these forum for 10 -12 years , hear some of the info given out without thinking about what , when, where etc you want to try and make people stop and think.
In the end I hate to see new people come on the forums and get lost in the deluge of information they are given in a days time. Sometimes I think they feel like a dog, all they hear is blah blah blah due to not knowing what we are talking about. :happy175:
Anyways sorry, I will think ******* how I can come up with something to get Medic and Gunner really good tonight !!:mwah1:

Lol only one way to learn right.. mistakes mistakes mistake.. I would imagine the reason Tom knows so much.. he's been there done that. So any advice of his I see pop up.. that word is bond.
I did consider a spacer lift for awhile to at least get the more aggressive lift look until I get an ome kit but figure I'll just save up to fix the problem of my sagging springs rather than mask it with spacers.. plus I'd probably only reach stock height with them put on anyways lol :happy175:

Hard to look at any one persons true path of logic with all the clutter, so I understand and didn't mean to add to it, but if you read my posts, they were directed specifically to what the OP was asking..
I read Tom's comment about the size tire I'm running, rubbing due to a sagging suspension, so decided to provide proof, in the event that the OP comes back and goes oh, so there's multiple people supporting that if I run these tires, they will rub..
You provided the thesis, and I provided supporting evidence

Stock suspension , no way, 245-70-16s barely fit after 50-60,000 miles
2.5 inch ( full spring lift minimum) for them
Mine with 2.5 JBA Total Control lift
and 265-70-16s on Moabs
You must be registered for see images attach
I'm running the same setup and Moab wheels. Great looking Liberty.

Ok so the space idea didn't work. Back the way it was. Full turn still hitting swaybar but that's it. So I got some 1.25 hubcentric wheel spacers for sale. Lol . Yes you was right Mr. Mudd
