HOW TO: Bi-xenon: Morimoto Mini H1 7.0 install

In my quest for more light, I decided to venture into the unknown and attempt my first retrofit. So I figured I would fill in some of the blanks that I could not find.

Product List:
New aftermarket headlight assemblies
Bi-xenon: Morimoto Mini H1 7.0 with 5500k bulbs
Morimoto RetroRubber Butyl Glue
100 mm Rubber Housing Caps

Now I already had the ballasts and wiring harness, but if you don't here's what you need:
MotoControl Bixenon: 9007/9004
Morimoto XB35
(Note: I used the 35w ballasts. You are able to run the 55w ballasts if you choose to)

1. First of all I ripped out all the extra parts that you do not need off the new headlights.

2. Here's what comes with the morimoto projectors. I used 5500k bulbs with mini gatling gun shrouds

3. Time to bake the headlights. I used the temperature and time listed on the back of the retro rubber glue. I can't remember what it is at this time

4. Once you pull the lens off (no pictures, since I didn't have any free hands) pull this little guy off.

5. Next break off the dremel with a cutoff wheel and cut this nearly flush. Otherwise it will hit the back of the projector. Sorry, I forgot a before picture.

6. After that, cut the ring on the back flush with a dremel so you can tighten down the nut on the back of the projectors when the time comes.

7. Test fit everything so that nothing is hitting.

8. Next, drill a small hole right through the middle of where you dremeled so you can run the high beam wire through.

9. This is my personal preference, but I glued the high beam wire into the back of the projector so it won't come out. You do not want this to fall out after the lens is glued back on. I used E6000 glue.

11. Here is what the back should look like when everything is mounted. (Note, do not torque down the projector nut yet.)

12. 100 mm rubber cap test fitted.

15. Alignment process. I noticed that after aligning the projectors, we took the headlights back out and torque the back nut down and reinstalled. However, the alignment was off from torqueing the nut. All I ended up doing was grabbing the shroud and I was able to spin it enough to perfectly align the cutoffs.

16. After everything was done, I sealed the headlights up with some retro rubber

17. Back into the oven it went

19. Next I modified the dust caps for a neat look. I was lazy and cut squares, you can cut circles if you want.

Now I know this makes the Jeep look like it has bug eyes, so I was considering painting on some "angry eyes" like some do. But I haven't got around to it yet. I'll probably try it with plastidip in case I don't care for it.

Hopefully this helps anyone that was considering it. I know it would have for me!

Lots of work, against the wall is one thing but the real test will be out on country roads where its dark.
Those kits produce a lot of light " up close" it seems to me, so you assume you have more lighting than what you do. Your eyes sense the extra light right in front of the vehicle that is on the road close to the car/truck/Jeep, gives you the impression that you can see further and have much better headlights.
Problem is now that right in front you have all kinds of light but none further out where you need it for driving 40-50 - 75 and up MPH. Having all that light close up tricks your vision / eyes into thinking you can see better.

So I'll be interested in seeing how you like them out 30 miles from town, most seem to find its not as good if you really judge them on if they actually work better or just for the cool factor

Not downing you at all like you think, I do lots of reading, studying etc into many different mods people do and why. This is still one that I can not find enough on to change my mind to ever do it.
Everyone puts up pictures against a garage door, but have yet to see a post anywhere showing same road, same spot and distance of stock and real distance of these like you did.
So you know I love to debate, doesn't matter what it is or which side I am on. :shrug::icon_lol:
Plus gotta love Daniel Stern Lighting ..................taught me a lot about automotive lighting, what works, what doesn't , what to avoid

All good points. However, If you look closely at the high beam picture, you see that the bulb "hotspots" are slightly above where the low beam cutoff is. This tones down the low beam and really increases the range when the high beams are on. These light are absolutely awesome on back country roads, hence why I did this mod. And the range in high beam mode is mind blowing. The deer around here always decide to eat right next to the road and seeing them is no problem now.

As far as pictures, I understand where you are coming from. I really don't have a good flat area where I could stop and get a picture. Mostly hills around here which affects the range. However, there are plenty of pictures on hidplanet forums showing the shots that you desire for the morimoto h1 mini projectors. If I can find a decent place, I will try to get some more output pictures out in the country.

And I know my jeep isn't angry but right now it looks like a bug. :happy175:

Edit: Just mentioning I have been running these for over a month already and just got around to doing this write up.

Looks good my man! If you get a chance you should take some pic's of them on the road at night and see how they throw. I am still debating HID or LED for my Titan but would probably just buy new projector housings instead of retrofit as there are a lot of options out there for my truck.

Yeah, that's what I ran into. I liked the output of projectors but no one makes them for the liberty. So I pretty much had no choice. I will try to get some pictures on back roads if the opportunity arises.

How did you aim yours? I got two new headlights and 10k xenon bulbs which are very bright but the lights need aimed

Sorry, didn't get notified of your post. Aiming them uses the factory adjustment screws still. Use a Philips head screw driver to adjust them.

Sorry, don't mean to necro here but I'm curious is there a benefit for using the 100mm rubber housing caps or is it just for looks?

I'm converting my 04 liberty to HID and I stumbled onto your very fine thread while trying to figure out how I'm going to aim them left to right w/o a set screw for it lol.

I'm converting my 04 liberty to HID and I stumbled onto your very fine thread while trying to figure out how I'm going to aim them left to right w/o a set screw for it lol.

The only reason I used the 100mm rubber caps it to keep the dust out of the headlight assembly. The projectors I used are not completely sealed where the bulb seats.

If you used the same projector as me(Morimoto mini h1,) it centers perfectly in the factory hole and the only adjustment you need to do is up/down.

The only reason I used the 100mm rubber caps it to keep the dust out of the headlight assembly. The projectors I used are not completely sealed where the bulb seats.

If you used the same projector as me(Morimoto mini h1,) it centers perfectly in the factory hole and the only adjustment you need to do is up/down.
I'm using a clone, same size and design but the lines are not as crisp (slight bow at the ends..nothing ground breaking), it still looks great but it's about 90% as good at 1/4 the price :p This is mostly to dip my toes in the water, if I like it then my next upgrade I wont be bothered spending $130 on some MH1 7.0s. I must admit I liked the cap idea and ordered two off ebay today.


Just a question, I don't have a canbus system on my 04 liberty but did you have any flicker/resistor issues on yours? I'm kinda at a cross roads for harness.

I either buy a mopar bi-xenon https://www.theretrofitsource.com/components/harnesses/mopar-spec-9007-9004-bi-xenon-harness.html at 72.50 single (42.50 extra with my HID kit) or take a gamble and get the normal bi-xenon 9007/9004 to H1 harness. Any thoughts? Also thanks for the response, you're one of the few out there that actually still reply to the threads :)

I just used the normal bi-xenon 9007/9004 to H1 harness on my jeep and have no flickering issues. I don't think you need the mopar spec one on our years.

And if you order off theretrofitsource.com, don't forget to used "TRSHJ" for 10% off. (biggthumpup)

Sweet deal, I will make sure to abuse that one :) I will take a swing with a normal harness and see what happens. I removed my bulbs today to see if I tripped a code and I think you're right. We shall see, will order this weekend. Thank you for the replies and the help :)

This is bringing me back to when I put the HID's off the SVT Focus on my normal Focus hatchback. Your KJ looks good with them man. I'd also like to see some night shots on the road.

Thanks! And I'll see what I can do about getting some night shots. Although taking pictures while is driving is usually the last thing on my mind :happy175:

Around 4 years ago I also installed Angel Eyes Projectors lamp with Bi Xenon. See picture below.

I ended up to take them off as the high beam (motorized one) started to fail until dead.
(after 3 years working fine)

I loved them for it's looking and for the performance.
