What is the "proper" process on changing the wishbone above the rear diff on the 02 Liberty? When I go over bumps I can hear popping and I'm for certain that crossmember is shot. Its rusted to crap and the bushings look like paper. If I pop the trunk and stand on the rear bumper and make the jeep hop up and down I can hear the popping noise. Before you ask, bump stops are okay, it's not bottoming out either. U joints are ok. Shocks are okay. Not looking for the tri link either. My question is, jack up on rear diff and put jack stands under the axle or body?

If you are not looking for the tri-link then what part are you looking at? I think you're confusing yourself with terms/names. Three things hold the rear diff in, tri-link and two lower control arms
But if the tri-link easy to replace , if its never been done before I'd remove the whole tri-link and the mounting bracket with the three bolts that go into the diff. Reason being its a lot easier to get to the bolt which is more than likely rusted in pretty good and get the ball joint popped loose.
Remove the bolt, slide it out then you can pound the ball joint out of the bracket. Oh you have to remove the Jeep balls before the bracket.
Put jackstands under the rear axle, will be easier to get everything aligned with the suspension compressed that hanging down

teeje, what you are calling the wishbone is the tri-link, it connects to the vehicle in three locations. Two mounts which you've clearly seen, and the balljoint.

Were you talking about making a differentiation between wanting to replace the stock assembly with new, OE design; as opposed to installing an adjustable tri-link for $600+?

Yeah sorry that's what I meant @jason. I don't want that 600$ part. I know to go mopar or I'm in the hole.

What 600 dollar tri-link?
one for 595 but not 600 and plus it will outlast ten of even the Mopar ones

I think he is talking about the JBA Tri-Angulated 4 Link. If I kept my KJ I would have bought one instead of replacing the current one when it came time.

Sorry just noticed you know what he is talking about lol. Was the price increased? It is now listed at $658 at JBA.

Besides mopar, does anyone know which aftermarket brand will work good? I've heard some bad stories about people going aftermarket and it failing months later. Of course if that's not a liable solution I'll go oe

Are you talking about replacing the handle or the struts? If the struts/supports I have heard good things about the Monroe MaxLift ones.
