The oil pan on my 2003 is getting pretty corroded despite spraying with anti-corrosive over the last few years at each oil change. I know the shop manual simply states to "remove motor", but I have also seen other methods where the cross member is lowered along with the differential. Does anyone have a step by step with photos that eliminates the need to pull the motor? With the mileage currently on the car, it simply isn't worth having a shop do this job.

What does "pretty corroded" look like? Got any photos you could post?
Unless you are almost able to pop a finger through the cancer, you may be able to put it off for a while yet?
It does seem possible to do pan without engine removal.. google "Jeep Liberty oil pan removal"..

After the transmission pan leaked, I had been spraying the oil pan with a corrosion inhibitor (Mercury Marine) every oil change. Last oil change, there was a dramatic difference in the pan and the swelling of rust. Getting ready to sell the car, hoping it makes it until then but the new car will be ordered and from what I am getting from the dealer, 6-8 weeks is the waiting time. Car is tired, has almost 200K miles in the northeast, where rust is just a fact of life. Unfortunately, the oil pan is an all stop problem.

Well until your new vehicle arrives, I hope it makes it. Keep an eye on oil levels constantly.
Unfortunately salt will eat though these oil pans, if salt is not removed on a regular basis.
Skid plates tend to help protect it.
Even tho my rig has been exposed to salt in winter, I always tried to power wash the crap off frequently after use.

Those pans are a PITA to separate from the motor. Even if you get enough room to access it you it will be a hassle to break lose.
