Depends on what you call off roaders and/or wannabe off roaders
Not everyone has the time or live where they can go off road daily / weekly/ even monthly so while you may view some one way they may view your comments another way
We all enjoy out KJs no matter on or off road and enjoy building and modding them , thats what makes us a great community of enthusiasts.
So what is your definition of a REAL offroader, waiting to hear this one

My "wanna be off-roader" takes me everywhere I want to go. It's not a rock crawler, but it also handles a lot of Moab and Csnyonlands just fine, even with 900lbs of trailer and gear behind it. Oh, and it handles daily driver duty as well.

Sounds like you've never tried one off road. Once you take care of the stock ground clearance problem with a proper lift, these little beasts are quite capable. I go anywhere my local 4-wheelers go in their Wranglers, XTerra's, Taco's, etc...but we're not out to conquer Helldorado or Metal Masher. As Tom stated, it depends on your definition of "off-road"...

I would argue the recent crop of jeeps are a let down to the legacy, even our commander which can be good off road it is far more road friendly than jeep legacy.

KJs have the solid bones for off road, proven axels, transmission, transfer cases. IFS may be a factor but most off road excursions it won't be a issue.

This thread is meant to be flame bait.

I started out with a stock XJ with what was consider to be a crap motor, transmission, and transfer case, beat the hell out of it off road and on, it never failed. Broke a couple of axels but none of the components that were suppose to be the weak link.

I wouldn't underestimate what a jeep is capable of based on common knowledge. Unless that jeep is new renegade ;)

If this is the best thing you have to do with your time you clearly dont have any off roading project at all or you would be working on that not picking fights on the internet.

Sure it's capable, but when were you off roading last with your KJ?

Bert

About a month or so ago actually. Maybe I'm just one of the few people that always keeps their liberty clean.

There's still mud and caked underneath the frame that I can't seem to get out still.

What's the deal?

It's summer, school is out, and his dad wouldn't give him the keys to the KJ tonight. What else is he going to do? :happy175:

Ha! "Off Road"? I bought my liberty to argue me through Boston winters, I need to be at work ON TIME even if the roads are not plowed......I other words, the job of my 02' is to keep me ON the road!

----and it does just fine

The KJ is very capable off road. Given its smaller size, many people just assume it doesn't belong off road. Simply not true. Where I live in remote Australia, those little Suzuki swifts are popular because theyre so small and light. With a lift, aggressive tyres and ideally lockers, theres few places it cant go.

Yeah, but you're in Australia. How much rough terrain can there be there? :icon_razz:

(That's sarcasm, for those of you on the slow side.) :happy175:

Agreed. I am constantly surprised by how prevalent the Jeep "Cherokee" is overseas from the US. It seems that in Australia, South Africa, and in parts of Europe (they have mountains and such... it counts!), these Jeeps get a bit more credibility.

Geez, guys! Two pages of responses to this schmuck in less than 24 hours...I'd say he got what he was looking for!

For future reference, it's best to just use something like this right away:
