Need help. sunroof drain front passenger side grommet

so I hunted around for all the plugs on that side of the jeep and matched all that were shown in the part fische. The location is about the same height as the driver side drain as well.

I just pulled the closest plug which was right above the radio antenna and just stuffed the drain grommet in.
couldn't get it in as well as I liked due to the angle of it and I didn't want to brake the plastic drain tube.

It drains out the same location as the driver side, right behind the pinch weld by the wheel well.

Soooo if you have a leak, you might want to check whether the other end of the drain goes out the jeep!!

Hmmm... Looks like I missed all the fun this weekend. Just returned from the wilderness with no connectivity. I wish I could remember a drain tube when I had my dash apart for the blend door actuator but I do not. I had that side way out and remember the A pillar tube but never traced it to an exit point. I can try to get a look at mine tomorrow after work. Mine being an 02 might be a bit closer to yours than HoosierJeeper's.

Okay, climbed all under there and with the glovebox out I could see the tube pass with a trajectory like the diagram you and LibertyTC had. No matter how far I squeeze under the dash or stuff my phone in there, I cannot get a clear view of the exact egress. Not sure if my 02 is slightly different but "trapezoid" shape appears to be there. I can see the antenna cable and part of its exit point and the drain tube appears to exit right above it. I strongly believe you have found the right spot to place yours but can't figure out why you would have a plug in there unless it was never installed correctly. Have you had this leak for long?

I believe it was never installed correctly from the factory.
There is some minor rust on the edge of the floor panel edge.
Hopefully it is just surface rust.

Thankfully we're in AZ and the wife had shaded parking when she lived in Phx.
The foam padding under the carpet is still drying out.


Now, I wonder where HJ's drain is hooked up to since he mentioned his drain wasn't hooked up in that spot.
The holes and plugs in the part fische were the same for the 02,03 and 05.

there was nothing around the firewall side.
I stuck my hand to feel for a hole as high as I could but found nothing but a grommet with a cable going through it.

Sounds like you lucked out overall. I'd go with the factory oops too. I'll bet someone put a plug in there during assembly and whoever was supposed to stick the drain tube in there failed or visa versa.

one thing I noticed is that the foam under the carpet can be wet but the carpet can be dry.

Yes the upper layer of carpet can dry quickly, but the lower pad will retain moisture and then start to stink! :signs16:
May want to pull the carpet back, throw a couple of nice smelling dryer sheets in for good luck, and get a heater in there, to dry it properly. :anitoof:

I've turned the carpet over as much as it would allowed me.
I've also stuck something under the carpet to prop it up.

Before that, I also stuck some rags underneath the carpet and pressed the carpet down to ring the foam.

The AZ summer heat is doing its thing nicely so not too bad.
Still drying out especially the areas by the ******.

Finally dried out, sanded the surface rust and primed the areas.

Case closed.
