So my daughter has a 2002 libby and I have an 05 (JK) Renegade. We were talking about similarities and realized both of our JK's have a mind of their own when it comes to heating and cooling.

The heat works fine, and the air runs great. The problem is that sometimes (most of the time) it blows out of the Defrost. Of course mine usually blows out the defrost and feet.

I have found with my 05, that if I turn the fan speed down to 1 and usually at slow speeds, the air will start blowing out of the vents... eventually. (or maybe when it feels like it. :happy175: )

Can anyone help me with a HOW TO fix this annoying problem. Both my daughter and I would be grateful.

Maybe... Could you help give me an idea on where to look what to do. I grew up on a farm working on all kinds of things, I was a mechanic in the Navy... but this is new and different. I am great at fixing... not so good at diagnosis. (guess I should have said that).

Tell me what to look at/for and I will go from there.

:)

When you move the position selector knob, can you hear the hissing and the blend door actuating at all?

It's quite audible on my 03.

I do... sometimes. Like when I turn the dial down to 1 or 2, it will move over to vent. Then when I move it back to 3 or four, sometimes it stays... other times it goes back to defrost or defrost and floor. Grrrr

Has anyone worked inside or behind the dash that you know of? Sounds like something may not have been put together correctly. Changing the blower fan speeds should NEVER change the vent selection... that's why it has it's own knob.

Agreed... I have just been busy this week. I have seen someone get behind the dash, so I know how to do it... I just need time. I am hoping next week.

OK, so I had time today to dig into this problem. I visually inspected and checked all but about 6 inches of the vacuum line. I also checked the check valve behind the glove compartment. Everything looked good. So... I just don't know where to go from here.

I believe this is a vacuum problem because I can get the blower to blow through the vents (sometimes) but as soon as the Jeep hits 47-50mph, the blower changes over to the defrost. Once I get below about 10mph, it will convert back through the vent. So I think it is loosing vacuum... but where? grrrrrrr

It has to be a vacuum problem. But I have good vacuum every where I checked it. all this said... I still have to have the fan set on 1 or 2 to get the blend valve to blow through the vent in the first place. :mad3:
