Ok I have to vent. I was recently in Tennessee and while I was in Home Depot someone was nice enough to steal my spare tire cover and then took a hammer and snapped the 3 lugs holding the spare on and stole that as well. Who the hell does this I mean seriously. I am livid of course the police will not do anything because they feel it is a low value loss and my insurance deductible is higher than the darn tire cost. Very frustrating.

End of rant

Sorry to hear someone did that. That's unreal.
Either someone needed it or was going to sell it for cash.

I guess it could be said that Chicago is a bit of a wild area.

Curious about where in TN? Seems ironic that you've had no problems in the Windy City then travel South to be victimized.

My question is, was there a security camera in the parking lot? That's one thing that always bothers me since I had my original cover jacked as well and I was less than 100 feet from the Jeep when it happened. There was nothing I could do and filing a report would have been worthless with no witnesses no, camera nothing. To swipe it was less than a 30 second job. So at least now I wised up with my new cover and put a lock on it so they have to cut the boomerang cord making it worthless. Which is now another reason why I park within viewing distances at stores like this so there are always people around rather than at the back of the lot where chances are higher of it getting jacked.

Even with a video what are they going to find? Most likely some generic looking **** taking it and tossing it in the back of a pickup with no tag.... That's what we find on most of our construction site tapes.

If you have a department that gives a care, most of the time they will break down the video, look for identifying features on the vehicle despite no license or tag on it. But those swiping from construction are people who plan ahead, the person who did this number most likely did spur of the moment.

Most stores don't care is the issue
Window was busted out at Walmart back several years ago, stuff stolen from insde
Asked to review tape, no they would not unless police were called
Police were called their response if its under 1500 bucks not sorth coming to investigate
So the H with Toledo Ohio police and any Walmart in the USA

Yep my Jeep got broken into a few weeks back. Smashed glass. I don't get it. There wasn't even anything of value in sight. They got MAYBE $50 worth. All garbage that won't really sell.

...and $4 of change...

When I got my Jeep a few folks suggested getting one of the cute tire covers. I wondered if that was a wise move. Now I see it is not. Your plight also convinced me to swap out my aftermarket wheels (which I do not care for) with Stock Steelies including the spare. Less likely to attract attention from the wrong crowd. BTW: I am about 45 minutes north of Clarksville and occasionally go down there to shop at the bigger stores (Target) so I am doubly convinced of the way to proceed. Sorry for your troubles but thanks for sharing so that others (me) can do something to avoid any in the future.

I like that so I'm posting it again.

Anyway, there are way too many scumbags in the world and they are everywhere. I live in a little rinky-dinky village in NY with 1,833 residents and that is even too many people and we do have episodes of vehicle break-ins once in a while here. (biggest city close by is 35,000 people). So you don't have to be in Chicago, NYC, Boston, or LA (city of angels....lol) to have your stuff taken. Also this is the holiday season and more thefts going on. Keep an eye on your stuff as best as you can.

Where does this mythical department exist?

We had a guy steal over $75,000 in material and an equipment trailer from our jobsite. I tracked the guy to a metal salvage yard and sent the Tulsa police department the guy's name, address, copy of his DL and pictures of the tag on his pickup and the tag on our trailer. I was told "This is the Tuesday after a holiday weekend, we're to busy to deal with it". 4 months later they questioned the guy at his house where he admitted to stealing the material and the trailer - but someone had since stolen the trailer from him.

That's all good and fine until you actually shoot someone that's breaking into your vehicle and an eager politically correct DA decides to make a name for himself by going after you.

Small timers in Kansas, try the group here who during rebuilding/modeling of I235 who stole 2 million worth heavy equipment in broad view. Took a couple of weeks, but all equipment was recovered and we're talking planned professionals here. There trucks were dressed up like the company doing the construction, loaded them all onto lowboy trailers and drove right off.

Also hearing such excuses like that from Law Enforcement does p1ss me off since I had two districts help me recover my phone when I dropped it on a mail route, this was after no help from my ''insurance company'' because I don't have their premium insurance to trace it through their precious app and the carrier who is nice until after you buy the phone. They didn't have to do what they did, but went the extra mile because I was able to trace my phone to a vehicle in a parking lot. They asked if I had the S/N for it and I said not without getting my box out at home. So he asked me a different way to verify it was my phone by what my wallpaper was on my phone. Four officers, two districts Des Moines and West Des Moines who took the time to work with me to get the report filed in the right district and then help me recover my phone. And this is a one year old outdated phone.
