Through research in my area i found the only metal impeller water pump was the pro-cool brand at Pepboys. I don't know the quality otherwise yet? But my perception is if they spent money to engineer a metal impeller than the rest of the quality should be good? This is FYI for members trying to make a decision of which pump to buy. Price was $41 with discount codes. Mike

Good to know. However that doesn't really determine the quality of the bearings that actually spin the thing eh?

No it doesn't! But i don't no what other brands bearings are like either. Since we don't have access to engineering specs and metallurgy reports, all we have to go by are looks (casting flash, workmanship etc...) and word of mouth.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Cardone makes a new 3.7 WP with metal impeller.

Be wary just because it say's "Made in the USA" on the box,in most cases in fine print it states the box itself is only made in the USA while the part inside is not.

Is the Cardone one any good?
I used one for my 4.7 stroker motor, but unfortunately my rig was totaled out with less than 10k miles on the motor.

I once picked a TV I liked from a store's display shelf . Told them I wanted one & they went in the back & brought me out one that was still in the box . In big letters on the box it said Made in the USA . At home I removed the TV from the box & on the TV it said Made in Taiwan . I guess the cardboard box was made in the USA . lol

I didn't realize we had composite impeller pumps. Crud.

Tend to fail around 100k, right?

It's very strange hearing all these issues. Our 90's Era subarus had all original everything except wear items. (Clutch, brakes etc..) hell I don't even remeber ever doing a coolant flush and that's with 256k on it.

Replaced my original one with a Cardone one at 150k miles about 6 mos ago. Working great and an easy swap if I need to replace in the future.

All things considered, as many water pumps I've seen with metal impellers eaten away by corrosion until vehicles begin to overheat without any seal leakage, I'm not too sure a properly specked fiber impeller wouldn't be a better idea. It ain't like they've got to resist the occasional rock or stick passing through. :emotions34:
