What's the deal with the "Passenger Airbag Disabled" light on the passenger grab bar above the glove box?

Darned thing works fine in the daytime. Comes on for a few seconds, turns off.

At night? Darn thing is on. Sometimes it goes off.

This is with no one in the seat, of course. If someone is in the seat, it never comes on.

Is it supposed to turn off at night, or always be on?

Good to know. I'll start worrying about why it's sometimes out, other than why it's sometimes on. :)

The light comes on when you start the jeep as a test, then will go out. The passenger airbag is turned off at that time. This is to save you money as it will not deploy during an accident because there is no one in the seat to protect.
If the seat registers weight AND the seatbelt is buckled, then the airbag will turn on and deploy in the event of a crash.
If the seat registers weight and the seatbelt is NOT buckled, then the airbag will turn off and your warning light will come on. This is to prevent injury to a passenger who is not wearing their seatbelt, as an airbag would then cause more harm than good.

If you light comes on, you either have enough weight in the seat to trigger the sensor, or your system is acting up.

Try giving the part of the seat where your butt goes on the passenger seat a few whacks with your fist and see if the light goes out.

Mine has been doing this for a while now. It's worse in the winter time. I think the weight sensor is just getting old. The airbag off light will always turn off if someone sits in the seat so I'm not too concerned about it yet.

Ah, that does seem to do it. Thanks for the heads up!

Mine is on all the time - even when someone is sitting in the seat. Just more of the Dodge engineering showing up.
