So I have a loose hose that's hanging down in the rear of my Jeep that I can't find where it goes to or what it is used for! Do I need to take this to a shop to get repaired or is it just as simple as pushing the end back where it goes? Here is a picture of the hose with a circle/arrow pointing at the two ends. It is an 04" Libby.

that's the vent hose for the rear diff.

I'm not too sure where it is attached to put if you zip tie it temporarily some where high till some else replies you with the correct location.

Wish I had a zip tie but didn't notice it until I got to school..I kinda stuffed the end up by the gas tank and I am hoping there won't be any damage until I can figure out where in the heck it goes to. I am not even sure how the flippin thing came off! Thank you for at least giving me the info on what it is.

should be fine.
The worst that could happen is the stress from the weight on the hose, the hose might break off from where it to the hose barb at the vent.
So tie it to something. old hose can be brittle

tie it up high. i put an extension hose on mine and ran it up through the gas filler hose area to get more height. i dont go into deep deep water, but its good peace of mind.

Just remember to give it some slack. The suspension needs to travel even if you aren't going off road. Go high and too tight and it'll just rip off.

The little clip thingie just to the left of the big red arrow? That's a clip to slide over a metal attach point. On a pickup that same clip bites into a flange of the top frame rail. On a unibody Libby, there should be a tell-tale mark over something like a shock mount, sway bar bracket, etc where it normally clips on.

So basically it doesn't "plug" into anything it is just a breather hose with a filter? That makes me feel better then. It makes since if it's attached to the body because my road has had major erosion and wash out from storms earlier this week so it might have popped off from the read end flexing when I was driving through everything. Thanks for the advise everyone.

no filter.
just a hose.

More of a check valve, I believe it closes off it submerged? Maybe not. Also keeps our southern "mud dauber" wasp from building a nest in the hole.
If it gets plugged up it'll cause oil expansion pressure to push oil past seals.

When I was replacing my fuel pump my breather was attached to the driver's side tank support bracket, route it high so the tip is between the gas tank and the frame and attach it to the gas tank bracket

It doesn't close off, that's why a lot of people who ford a lot of rivers or deep water extend their breathers
