Fiat is now offering Libby owners $100 bucks to get the trailer hitch recall done.

Now I have an excuse to get my hitch washed

Some type of Visa use anywhere card - still have not seen the details.

Glad I waited, wonder if I wait another 6 months it will be $200?

It was disclosed to me in confidence. Yes Bridgestone owns Firestone and its a two faced company, great product just the company itself I could care less about.

the hitch becomes a harpoon as it were... the "fix" for our gas tanks is not good enough according to NHTSA so they need to come up with a better soloution ... i have 3 dodge trucks going in at work ... and from my understanding the buy back wont be a coupon . it will be fmv but thats only on the trucks so far.... the jeeps they still need to finger out.

I just want to know who thought this up and decided that cars built twenty years ago which passed standards, are no longer safe. It does not matter where you put the fuel tank, it can rupture in any kind of accident if the vehicle is hit hard enough. The consequences alone, open a door to abused power serious abused power.

You are missing the main point. The gas tank was fiberglass and through Chryslers own testing found that the tank ruptured at a far higher rate then the standard gas tank. Instead of correcting the flaw they kept on installing the sub par tanks because of the cost saving that help their bottom line.

It not that it was approved but the information was distorted to recieve the approval.

I think with all of the fallout from this is done, there will be a much larger selection of kj's for me to choose from at a much more reasonable price point. There really is not anything I like at any price to replace my 05. Fact is as soon as I can find a few more I'll be getting rid of the Lexus SUV that the wife drives, getting one for my oldest daughter at university of Texas , and one for my 16 year old who is just about to get her license. So please trade away

A car lot close to my house went from having none for the longest time to 5 in the last 3 weeks and one was lifted.

Hardly a case at all, why? Look with the Firestone Tire Debacle and Explorers the only ''remote'' damage in case was the fact that U-Haul banned the Explorer and the Explorer Sport Trac from towing its trailers, yet the Mercury Mountaineer, Mazda Navajo and the Lincoln Aviator can tow their trailers. The new Explorers can tow U-Haul equipment but that's it, first gen through fourth gen can not. Otherwise the Explorer never got an actual dent in its sales performance. I don't see an issue here with the Liberty as well, out of 2 million vehicles that's Liberty and Grand Cherokee Combined only 47 deaths or something like that. They're both too popular of a small/midsized SUV and I see at least ten Libbys alone a day, and I always see at least one on any route I do. I see plenty of older Grand Cherokees on the road too here and anywhere I go especially out in rural country. Probably a few thousand customers will trade in their vehicle all freaked out over the issue that's about it. Most people who had gotten the noticed when I worked at the Dealership really didn't even give a care at all about getting a hitch put on their Liberty. If it weren't for the fact that I may actually be towing with the Libberty myself, I wouldn't have done it.

Fiberglas - really? Not even sure which vehicle this post was about as no quoting and it gets discombubulated , but most tanks are blow molded plastic of some type.

Kelly blue book puts the value of my jeep at the dealer $3,600 and private market being $4,500. I read they will be offering fair market value and a $1,000 discount for a newer jeep dodge chrysler. That gets me thinking. A '08 wrangler unlimited 4 doors. Can go for anywhere from $15k up to $25k. Minus the buy back i could almost afford that.

I am still satisfied with my 2005 Limited and having a trailer hitch is just gravey. She has 152,000 miles and still running strong. And that's the truth.

True and i surely cant afford that. I was looking into this whole thing last night alot of conflicting stories. Some saying the buy back is for liberties some saying its only for the dodge trucks. I won't be doing anything unless they send a notice. Maybe call a dealer see if they have any information.
