in search of a stock 4 light roof rack for fair price
links to this specific item would be greatly appreciated
love the look it gives the jeep and would be very useful for drives up to rural areas where there are no street lights
if anyone has already had one come with their kj's or bought it aftermarket and had installed please share your experience

They're on ebay and amazon for around $500...you'll get more expensive as you go to other companies. The only reason I know this is because I was searching for them myself earlier today cause I like the look haha.

....paid $80 for the complete set-up that I bought at a local wrecking yard. All four lights, the mounting base, all the hardware and the length of wire harness. Have not installed them yet, but all the lights tested good. It was easy removing them from the wrecking yard Renegade as the interior had already been thrashed (so I wasn't too mindful of breaking panel clips and such), definately going to be a delicate operation when installing them. The headliner panel has to come out for the install which means all the rest of the interior panels have to be removed as well.

I have the lights on my Renegade. I agree they look cool. Problem is they suck and I would be pissed if I spent $500 dollars adding one. The glare off the hood makes it almost useless. Also the stock bulbs don't throw light very far. The one good use for them is going slow over big obstacles; lights up the area directly in front of you quite well. I rarely ever use my roof lights. The lights on the bumper work way better for cruising dirt back roads at night.

I would take whatever money you plan on spending and buy a led light bar and mount it to the bumper. Serious light that would be way more useful. 2¢

What about KC lights on the roof or would it have the same effect? I like the round lights up top and if i can get close to how that thing looks I would be happy o_o

I was wondering if it is just due to how forward the oem lights are mounted. If you mounted them farther back the roof actually might shield the hood from glare.

I feel that the roof mounted lights were added to the kj because they gave the kj a different look. I like having the lights just because I like how they look. also meny friends like the look of them also, as for practical use well they are limited.

You have this post looking for a factory light bar to use while driving on the road, in order to improve visibility in low lit area's you travel that do not have street lamps. But you have another post how you want to tint your entire windshield by 25-35% basically ruining your visibility?

I feel like the road is a very dangerous place with you on it, my friend. lol

(don't' take actual offence please, I'm just giving you a friendly hard time)

My Renegade roof lights give me about a 1/4 mile range, I've found that to be more than efficient. But then, I don't have a tinted windshield. lol
If something sneaks up on me in the distance these lights give, it means I was driving with my eyes closed. The degree of hood glare might be related to the paint color. I'll have to test shine mine again as I don't recall it being a glaring annoyance.

My 2005 Renegade came with roof lights. The day I bought the car I waited until night and drove to a local park. flipped the switch and nothing happened. Went back to the dealer the next day to fix an "electrical issue(?)" with the lights. since then used them maybe 10 times and they are fine for my needs. Lost a plastic lens cover once in a car wash and didn't realize it until I was in the next state. They are expensive little things, I think around $30!

Hmm, do you have 2 watt bulbs in them? When I turn mine on, it makes it seem like the headlights aren't even on anymore. They easily overpower the headlights, fogs, and highbeams. You should adjust them or something. I use mine pretty regularly when driving on poorly lit rural roads. I love the way they look, but more importantly, they do a good job at what they are designed for. I do not find the hood glare to be any issue, just need to hit the windshield with some fluid to get the dust off.

im not sure what everyone is complaining about with the roof lights. i ordered mine new in 2008 and installed myself. i think they must be aimed properly though.

i use my brights as a reference point at about 150 feet from a wall. i adjust the roof lights to just touch the very top of the high beam light pattern. this lights up everything above the high beams, and i also did the "fog light trick" so my fogs on the grill will run at the same time as the high beams.

so i am lighting up everything from the ground up starting with the fogs on bottom end, brights in the middle, and then roof lights for anything above high beam light throw. works perfect and very very little glare on the hood.

I wonder if aftermarket roof lights need to be booted (covered).

California law requires roof lights to be booted whenever the vehicle is driven on the streets. But I've NEVER seen ANY Liberty's with thier roof lights booted. However, I know of a few people whom have been ticketed for having thier aftermarket roof lights unbooted while driving on the streets..

Those vehicles cited were Chevy, Toyota and a Ford. And the roof lights were obviously an aftermarket add on. Maybe the Libby's roof lights just blend in so well with the vehicle that law enforcement officers don't notice them.....or maybe Libby owners are just above the law.

I'm beginning to think that these guys who have poor distance with their Renegade roof lights may be forgetting to remove the covers. :happy175:
Covers for high mounted lights are a law here in Illnoise too, but I haven't been stopped by the law yet. Oops, did I say yet?

In new york you must keep them covered, but I only keep my covered when I go on trips to keep the bugs off of them.

When I was looking for lights and lived in Ohio (no cover requirement) all I saw was lights with covers. Now I'm in VA and need them and they seem few and far between, or are very expensive to say the least...

The world hates me. :blah:

This is one of the reasons why I have decided in the long run not to mess with bar lights or doing my original idea of a Brush Guard with Lights on the top of the brush guard to add a touch more Jurassic Park Effect. Due to having covers.
