The lighter outlet is not working. I disconnected the connector from the socket and put a meter on the terminals in the connector, but didnt get anything. I tried with the key on and off. The rear cargo area outlet works fine. The fuse for the lighter is good. The wires going to my lighter socket connector are black/orange & red/white. I've read on here that they have a direct feed from the battery, but i was unable to see exactly where they came from the firewall to the battery.
Any ideas out there or maybe something else obvious that I didn't catch?

thanks!

I have had to replace the outlet itself in my KJ - that worked.

Hey, thanks! :) I've been around - working a lot since November, and not posting much... but still here.

I have not done the mod to have the power outlet go off with the libby but all it takes is one relay. connect up the trigger wire to the radio fuse via a fuse tap.

So, I put in the new socket and still a no-go. Quadruple checked the fuse. The wires are definitely well seated in the connector to the socket. Do you know where they connect under the hood?

Hope this helps.

Use a VOM/Continuity test to ensure that fuse is good.
My accessory socket is wired hot at all times, careful..do you have live voltage at wires or not?

I have put a meter on the wires in the connector at the socket and checked the fuse via meter. I didn't actually remove the wires from the connector but was able to get the leads of the meter in there well enough and didn't get any voltage. Tried key on and off just in case.

Don't know why you bought a new socket when you had no power going into the old one? That wasn't the issue, maybe you can take the new one back.
Have you checked at the fuse panel, for power on the hot side of the fuse, after removing the fuse?

Yeah I saw that "mentioned", but didn't want to step on someone else's toes. Sometimes preventing an asker from barking up the wrong tree can be taken personally by an answerer as a "correction". Internet forums are fun that way! ;)
Start at square one (verify power at the fuse panel), and trace forward from there.
When you checked for power before the socket, did you use the ground wire on the socket, or back to a known good ground source? Your issue could be a bad ground wire at the socket, if that's where you tested from.

How do you know the fuse is good? Did you test it for continuity? Did you swap in another known-good fuse of same size?

I didnt use the ground wire on socket and probably didn't get a good ground when i checked. I did check the fuse separately with the meter twowings, so I didnt bother to put another in its place.

so, a big thanks to those that tried to help!

Short story.. I am a jack@$$!

Long story... I was checking the wrong damn fuse. How foolish of me to be checking the fuse labeled "cigar lighter" in the manual when I should have been looking at "power outlet (front)". I guess because it was an actual lighter in the socket & not a "power" outlet, i missed it in the manual. Either way.. now we can charge all our devices up front! no more pulling over to check the device charging in the cargo area! haha

Do you even smoke cigars? If not, that alone can throw you off the trail. :happy175:

I am swapping parts from my 02' into my 04" KJ. I especially wanted to swap the RBP radio from my 02' into my 04' with a RBK radio. And that worked just fine! But I also want to swap the radio bezel, as it has both the Cigar lighter, Power outlet and ashtray. I like having 2 power outlets for plugging in both my GPS and phone charger. I use the ashtray just to hold my GPS. So I'm not concerned about the light bulb in there. However, the 04' only has a connector for the Cigar lighter, which it turned on/off with the Key. And I'd like to have the power outlet "live" all the time. Like it was in my 02'. Where can I tap into, to get power all the time, for the power outlet? I'd prefer not to tap into the radio wiring, just in case I want to use a small 150 watt power inverter in there. I can just cut off the old connector from the 02'. Looking at the wiring diagram, the power outlet seems to take the ground connection from the cigar lighter. I don't want to take apart the dashboard to do this! Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Splice it in to the existing one. That's what I did.l but I added a dual USB port in place of the cigar lighter and spliced in the cigar lighter behind the dash and plugged in a USB car charger so I could run my phone charger behind the dash through the defrost vent. Hides my cable and I pull it out only when I need it. I mount my phone on a windshield mount so it works great.
