Crankshaft Sensor Issues

I am wondering if there is an alteration I can make to the crankshaft sensor in order to shorten it a tiny bit. I ask because I started having the Tach going nuts and stalling out issues that I had to deal with. I threw about a thousand bucks at it until I finally was told that there was rubbing on my crankshaft sensor that was throwing it out of whack and generating all these false codes. Well we shimmed the sensor and it has run for like 4,000 miles with no incidents except that I smell oil burning and I think it's from where the shim is not allowing the o-ring seal to do its job. Would love to not have the burnt oil smell there when I stop.

I'm assuming you got a sensor from your local AutoZone or equivalent. I would also suspect your sensor is the product of cheap engineering/manufacturing. Go to the dealer and get an OEM sensor. If you have the correct sensor you shouldn't have to shim it.

The burnt smell may be coming from the passenger side valve cover gasket. It leaks right above the CKS and could be what you're seeing. And the CKS won't drip onto anything that would cause it to burn so look at the catalytic converter on that side and see if there is left over oil residue right at the elbow.

With these engines stick with Chrysler sensors. Aftermarket units only cause problems.
