Well, I finally got my hitch. it was a long journey. Originally i brought it to a dealership in northern illinois where i live, and they told me that i had too much rust to bolt it on. (was the biggest bs excuse ever). i contacted chrysler and they said i can't do anything about the rust and that i essentially was SOL. so when i brought my car to florida for school, i brought it to another dealership and they said it would be no problem, and installed it. They also said that the previous dealer marked the recall as done so they could get credit for it. but i never got a hitch. dang scammers. but I'm happy now with my hitch done, and it seems very durable. The dealer told me it was a class 3, but i feel like its more a 2.5. who knows. tests will follow.

I wonder how often that has happened nationwide. :emotions34:

How disgusting, I wonder if there is a way to report them for that, At least file some sort of complaint.

It's an amazing dealer too. They've always done good work so I don't know why they did this. The dealer in florida I went too is just charging them for the instal haha

It occurred to me just now that marking it "complete" might mean that the recall itself was considered resolved, even if the resolution of it was that they were unable to do the work due to rust, blah blah blah.

Having watched the guy go over mine during the hitch install, my advice would be that if you have a significant amount of rust (mine did not) you might want to clean things up and tap the threads out before you take it in. If their first impression is that it's too rusty they probably won't look much further and will just reject you. If it looks clean (and easy for them to do) they will probably proceed.

I wire brushed and painted mine black so I wouldn't be denied even though it was rusty. Of course it was no problem and I was out in 20 minutes

Well after multiple calls since last September (2014) to multiple dealers, in my area. I keep getting told they don't have parts and they are not scheduling for this recall. My local dealer says they have a 5 page list of customers that need the recall, but can't proceed because of parts.

So yesterday i get a voice message from jeep corporate (recall assistance) to call my dealer and schedule this recall. So what do I do? I call my dealer and get the same story, no parts. Frustrating that Corporate and its dealers are so disconnected and not communicating. Or obviously these dealers near me don't want to do the recall and are hoping I go away.

I guess I will call the recall assistance line next week to see if they can help. Mike

Finnaly got my hitch installed on friday. 4 months after I went in for the inspection. Goofy thing they wanted me to sign a paper saying that this hitch is not for towing and doesn't have the heavy duty equipment required for using it to tow... I think it's just so they dont get sued when someone gets in an accident or damages their jeep by towing a full size camper.

That is all it is for, Some clown is going to get a hitch. Google Liberty towing capacity and see 5000lbs and not realize that's V6, Automatic and with HD cooling/Tow package and try to pull something and have a bad day and automatically point fingers at the dealer.

So I went to the local dealer to get my KJ scheduled to take care of all the open recalls (minus bomb... I mean airbag replacement) and they seemed to know about the recalls, but the service guy said 'oh yea, we take a look and if there's any sharp parts we just grind em down so it's safe.' I asked if they had hitches in stock to complete the repair and he said "oh, that's only if necessary."

I didn't have the notice with me, didn't seem accurate, but now I'm re-reading it and it definitely seems to imply that a hitch must be installed to comply. I'm going to have to call before the appointment and double check they aren't just wasting my time.

Some dealers seem to be happy to bolt the hitch on and send you on your merry way. Others seem to want to fight tooth and nail to keep from doing anything. I was lucky and got the first kind. If they keep stonewalling you I would try calling a different dealer.

From what i understand they will inspect the hitch .. if it is "fine" they mark the recall as done and collect the cheque.

just had my decorative trailer hitch installed yesterday morning. now i am teh safe from being pintoed. the dealership must have reorganized the service department. they just put the hitch on(30 min) and that was it. no "yer everything is leaking, pay us to fix". the 16 or so point inspection looked rubber stamped.
