I think I've found the source of the misfire on #1

The center electrode that sticks well down below the porcelain is gone (burned away or broken), and the prong is pushed up against the porcelain. Something inside the cylinder would have had to whack the plug to make it look like that.

Is it the wrong plug? Is the thread length too long pushing the electrode too far into the cylinder?

I can't remember what mine looked like when I changed them - whether they protruded that far into the cylinder.

I saved my old plugs (I save everything). lol.
I'd have to dig them out and compare.
What plug # is the one in the picture?

Guys,

Appreciate the help, but to save you from any boggling, the insulator had become detached from the core and had slid down. It was just floating about on it's own.

It must've been firing at some point as the code wasn't there all the time.

On a positive note, I've used the car since I finished working on it today to go to the gym and run a couple of errands.

That EML light still hasn't come back on :D

Wheels off, stripped and repainted and put back on last night.

Looks better that the flaky mix they were before

I'd love to lift it, and fire on a set of off road tyres on - however, in line with the R2R budgeting, I can't really do that until after the rally has passed.

You know, I had always thought, we'd complete R2R and sell the car as soon as we got home. I can't see me doing that now. I've gotten quite fond of the old girl.

Started to fabricate the roof rack today, too. Might finish it this weekend and get it off to powder coater next week.

It was bound to happen that way. Just about everyone here knows exactly how you feel. :favorites13:

The black leather interior is in AWESOME shape - I'm surprised there aren't more cracks/rips/wear spots.

From what I can see, there's one small tear on the base of the front passenger seat.

The rest of it looks pretty good, I reckon

Made good progress with the roof rack today.

Just a couple of extra bits to add before I send it off for blasting and powder coat.

Some holes to drill for some extra spots, and another to mount an aerial.

When I was changing the plugs the other day, I concluded that one of the previous owners had been trying to top up the transmission fluid from the dip stick tube at the back of the engine bay.

It appears they spilt a whole load of transmission oil down the back of the engine.

I had the car at a local trucking company, who kindly took it up on their ramps and pressure cleaned the bottom of the car, and removed all the oil from underneath.

What I noticed today, when I had the car in the shop, was that there was hardly a drip of oil on the floor when I was putting the old girl outside again.

I'm not sure if I'm that lucky, but I'll keep a check on it over the coming days and watch the oil level like a hawk.

Fingers crossed!
