You could put a battery disconnect on the battery and disconnect it when you leave it alone. If you really want to make it impossible for some one to steal your jeep just tap into the fuel pump positive feed and wire in a on/off switch with a key.

People suck, sorry to hear about your mishap. That was obviously the work of amateurs. One of those steering column chastity belts (covers and locks up the key area) may be enough of a deterrent to make the average smash and grabber move on to find an easier target. If a pro wants to steal the Jeep, they'll get it no matter what security measures you take....short of sleeping in it with a 45 in hand.
Good luck with the job situation, tell them we said you deserve another shot at the interview. ;)

I had science teacher who wired a coil from a model A the body of his car. He had a switch hidden in the fender. When got out he would throw the switch and electrify the body if the car. Not enough to kill but yikes it could make you jump if touched it.

I'm in an awful Catch-22; Need the Jeep to get a job and need a job so I can move out of this awful place and (hopefully) hang on to the Jeep.

I did have an interview with another company today. I had interviewed with them a week ago for a job I didn't get, but the fact that they called me back today to discuss another position must mean they didn't absolutely hate me. It went well (haven't they all...), and on top of that I was asked to stay at the last minute and talk to another manager in the same department. It took $41 in cab fare to get there and back but if it lands me a job it will be a bargain.

The place I was supposed to talk to last Monday said I can call them once I'm fully mobile. My dilemma is that there is no way in the world I want to get the Jeep back and risk parking it in the same place as before. Due to my dwindling resources I had to move to a cheaper place (semi-slum) and it only took them four days to hit me here. I'm month-to-month and it's a race against time to get out of here before I suffer a repeat performance or even something worse. This is not at all what I expected when I went back to school and got the can't-miss degree which has come up snake eyes thus far.

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. It's about all I have left. Sorry to sound so melodramatic, but... :emotions34:

Don't let it drag you down prof! Look what happened to the guy who got his jeep stolen a little while back. He got it back and he has it running again!

Looks like there is a chance I will get it back tomorrow.

They had to replace the whole steering column. Is there anything I should be on the lookout for if and when I pick it up?

You'll bounce back and even stronger.

As for alarms, I used to have a Viper 791xv and I liked it a lot.. I lived in an apartment and it had a key fob that would go off if the alarm was triggered. That way if I was in the apartment out of ear shot I would still know. The fob would also tell you what sensor was going off for door or hood or whatever. That was a while ago so I'm sure it's outdated and has been replaced with something newer... Looks like Viper has one now that runs the data to your cell phone instead to warn you. Just remember to arm it. The one time I didn't arm mine it got broke in to.. They even shattered my windshield going for the in dash 7" GPS screen.

With the deductible what they should do is tell you how much the claim will be for in damages and then deduct the $500 from the check they hand over to you. Then you take that check and go somewhere with a better price and negotiate with them to get it down to the money you have... Say it's $2,000 in repairs by their estimates, so you get a check for $1500. Find a different shop that might say they can do it for $1900 and if you say you got 1500 cash in hand they would probably take it.

I lost my Libby she was draged up a flat bed alarm screaming Nov 1st it was caught on cameras. She was tracked down to a dealership and bound for overseas. I can't say much at this time but I will not be getting her back and after the use for evidence she will most likely be auctioned off. I was given a new truck by the dealer as it wasn't them but some bad emploees. So shhh the word and the insurance will not pay off till legalities are settled. For those who have seen Libby know this is a great loss.

Criminy, Porkchop. When did that happen? :icon_frown:

On a side note, I finally got it back today and left for a 400-mile trip to Va. The Low Tire Pressure light blinked every ten minutes the entire way. I also cannot turn my fog lights off. I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to this, but does this mean they did not program the computer properly? I don't even have the daggone Tire Pressure Monitors... :emotions34:

Robert what do mean they gave u a new truck?
If there was no damage why would u not get it back?

Steve Glad to hear you have your KJ back! Now lets hope you can get them to fix the wiring in the turn signal stalk or what ever is happening there...TPM too...ahh fun...Not.
Hopefully you will have a job offer quick, since you can now get there again!
This kinda non sense make we want to find some way of having a tracking system in my KJ!!

Yep dealer and manufacture wants no bad PR and Libby is being held for evidence as it is the one on camera from my work and they were in position of. So I cant mention brand or dealer.

Blinking tire sensor usually means bad sensor if it stays on usually low air pressure.

Holy crap. Sounds like Crockett and Tubbs stuff. Glad they got these guys. Others haven't been so lucky. All this theft stuff recently makes me think there may be quite a bit of value in our KJs. Guess us owners aren't the only ones to know they are valuable vehicles. :icon_lol:

Sounds like a program error to me. Like it's looking for them. Not sure how they tell them they are there. Maybe check your owners manual as to how to shut it off.

Fog lights are like daytime running lights now. Sounds like a switch issue as you've probably surmised.

I say why not give the Libby back to you AND let you keep the truck they gave you as hush money...????

I try not to fall in love with vehicles (it's just a 'thing' and is replaceable - sort of :emotions34: ) but as much as you've put into your KJ it seems worth the fight to get her back.

Glad you had the security cameras to nail the bums who tried to steal her :favorites68:

Prof, still thinking about your job interview. Any word from the company on the status?

Bob
