So as driving came to a stop sign when I went to accelerate again felt like someone had rear ended me. About a mile later did you eat started shaking and not wanting to accelerate. tried to put it in reverse to turn around and head home and felt like the rear was locked up as the RPM's climbed it jolted into revers then shifted into neutral to try and back it up a bit wouldn't roll have to force it something popped and about 6 inches on locked up again.when I got home noticed it was low on fluid ended up meeting about three quarters of a quart.with the transmission being that low on ****** fluid cause that to happen or does it seem like something More sever

WOW somethings sounds real bad there. Inspection time. Big time.
Is something binding up in front or rear I dont know...
Get it up on a lift and see if the drive train is free in neutral with t-case in neutral starting to move turn wheels and see where it is at...
What happened after you put more trans fluid in?..I assume you added ATF+4 right?

yes used atf4 seems to be running okay now maybe still has a funny sound but that could also be now I'm listening for more? Not sure what to do keep driving it and risking a blow up of the Trans or bring it to the shop unfortunately not a good time for expensive repairs

Well dropped off at the mechanic this am.. and the verdict is smoked the trans all kinds of metal shavings in the pan.. so mechanic said he will rebuild it for me with one year warranty for 1800.00 or a used junk yard trans installed no warranty for 1400.00... so I think for 400.00 more im better off with the rebuilt....

Opinions please? Which route would u guys take and does 1800.00 sound fair?

IDK I would say as long as it is a reputable rebuilder that will get the right quality parts as in updated parts etc ....A 1 yr warranty makes sense to me. A JY trans no warranty suddenly does not sound appealing at all.
If it was my only vehicle I would want it back on the road and definitely reliable again ASAP as well. Price? Not bad I guess?..got any other quotes on it?

$1800 sound about right for a real rebuild. I recently had to have one (unfortunately). As long as your getting the "works". New torque converter, rebuilt pumps, new clutches, etc.

PS> In my opinion 80% of transmission shops don't have a clue what they are doing (or to put it another way, these are sensitive pieces of equipment that take a ton of abuse). Just make sure they know what they are doing.
I would say, if you can buy a new factory transmission with install for 140% of the price of rebuild, I would do that in most cases (doesn't matter what brand of vehicle). Computerized, overdrive transmissions are assembled in clean rooms at the factory----think about that compared to the looks at the transmission shop where you are having the rebuild done. All it takes is one metal sliver in a solenoid bore to really screw things up.

If the rest of the Jeep is good I would go for it, I had my manual transmission rebuilt about 6 months ago but that turned a $2500 Quote with new clutch kit and flywheel being machined into $8000 in the end, Ended up replacing rear main seal, Exhaust parts that broke when being taken off, Front wheel hubs/bearing, T-Case seals, Drive shafts had to be sent off to be rebuilt as they are so back ordered (I confirmed this myself), Rear upper control arm/joint, Rear rotors/pads and E brake, Radiator replaced and all fluids services/replaced, A bunch of these items were caused by me opening my mouth and asking to have checked out, The shop is very reputable and I am happy with their service and quality of work and parts, I work just down the road from them and every time they came across something they called me and I stopped in so they could show me before going ahead with any work, Plus everything they did was related to the work they were originally to do, It all boils down to what you are willing to do or spend.
