As stated in my other post about wheel spacer removal got a good deal on a set of moab wheels going to give them a try yadda yadda yadda....

I would like to paint the wheels black and was wondering if painting before would be bad as they might get scratched when the tires get mounted but it seems like it would be easier to them paint with no tires on. Also what is a good durable wheel paint to use?

Paint em with the tires on since there's a chance they'll get scratched mounting, but then again you could always touch em up

I've done it both ways. I painted the moabs on mine with silver wheel paint without tires without any scratching after they mounted the tires. I painted the wheels on my superduty black with the tires on and had new tires put in and no scratching

Yea I went ahead and painted and then got tires mounted and they turned out great! No scratches from tire mounting and they put the weights on the inside of the wheel.

Looks good! I've become a fan of that rustoleum bedliner as a paint alternative. I used it on the inside of my 14' aluminum fishing boat and I'm impressed. I might use that to recoat the wheels on my truck.

I like to paint them before mounting the tires. I'll lay down a few coats of primer on the lip/bead area, and do a few extra coats of paint. IMO, it makes the bead area more durable and less likely to chip/peel.
