Okay, so I wasn't thinking twice about it till I got to work and noticed the HVAC system was not working right, sounded like static from a radio when the fan was going on a dead station and no air coming out anywhere from the vents top, middle or bottom. Pulling into the parking lot and backing up the Jeep just instantly died no reason clutch not too far out and plenty of throttle applied. I re-fired it without paying attention to the dash lights until I parked, I had the ETC flashing, ABS, ESP, AIR BAG and CHECK ENGINE Lights on. I shut the Jeep off re-fired again and just the CHECK ENGINE Light stays on, the HVAC system which wasn't quite working is now working again fine. Engine idles exactly how it normally does, throttle response is fine. I hope the passenger side cat isn't plugged.

How old is your battery? I know a bad battery can cause strange crap like that to happen. Could also be a speed sensor with the lights all on and stuff.

I would say take it to get scanned. You will probably need an actual scanner though to pull the codes not one of those cheap OBDII ones they use at Autozone (but it doesn't hurt to take it and see what it pulls)

I just got it scanned with the POD at work so I'm going ahead and having it taken into the back shop for further look, same codes came up that happened to me back in early January, C121C and P2174 both seem to apply with the ETC. I was driving to work back in January early morning like this and it instantly died then re-fired since was rolling at 60mph. They said possibly quite possibly the TPS might be failing and that looked like it had been replaced before.

So I cleared out the codes, and drove it to pick up meds for the wife and home when I got off work since we couldn't get it into the shop to be looked at. The Jeep is behaving normally again so for now I'll run with it and see if something happens, though I have the feeling I'm going to want to change the TPS just to be on the safe side.

I've been under the hood everything is fine I've done my inspection that I do every spring, this isn't the first time these codes popped up, its believed that an independent shop used a direct Mopar replacement possibly for the TPS since the only service records I have are the two from Germany, one from the Dealership I worked/bought it and the ones from the Dealership I work at currently. In January it died for a split second on the highway, if it weren't for the CEL and the ETC lights coming on you'd swear you just drove over a bump at high speeds, same codes popped up. So it's thought that possibly the TPS has been replaced so that is why I'm thinking it may need replaced again.

The P2174 is a Power Reduction (Accumulation) code as if to say moisture got into the intake, I've heard that Liberties with Fly By Wire have issues with the TPS's and moisture getting into the throttle body causing them to die or short out the TPS's. Now if that is true or not, I do not know it's what I heard.

You've got one of those new fangled kjs. :icon_lol: Not sure how your ETC works.

My old timey 02 doesn't have any of that fancy stuff I guess. When my TPS went 5-6 years ago it just ran like crap and I got a code that said my TPS was crap. Easy fix. Wish I could remember the exact code but there was no doubt P0123 or something like that.

I just found this:

P2174 Jeep Low Airflow/Restriction Detected Instantaneous Accumulation OBDII Engine Light Trouble Code | Engine-Codes.com

Seems like you should just change it and see, but my TPS was inexpensive. Your MAP sensor is pretty cheap though. I don't mind changing cheap stuff as a means of diagnosis. Now if only my dang airbag light was a cheap fix...

Keep us posted and good luck.

Most likely me thinks it might be smart to change out both while the weather is still favorable or should I say at least before Sept when it begins to cool off. That's all I need the thing to die on the Interstate this Feb while heading to or back from Florida.
