Hello from Minnesota!

I'm brand new to the forum and have yet to purchase my first Jeep. So thank you for having me before I'm an actual owner. I've heard so many great things about Jeeps and the Jeep community as far as meet ups, trail rides and knowledge base, I'm excited to start my journey. I'm hoping to learn a lot about the Liberty before I purchase, then become a contributing member.

My first priority is to familiarize myself with possible common issues associated with certain models or milages. To build a watch out for this list and/or get a to do list started. Once I find the vehicle, then I hope to become a contributing member.

If you care to share any guidelines or tips for my journey (or the forum itself) please feel free.

Cheers!

Welcome Jen soon to be a Jeeper.

What model Jeep are you looking for? We are partial to the Liberty here, but we like them all:mexsmoke:

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I am very partial towards the Liberty KJ (02-07?) and have been looking in the 2005-2007 model range. The vehicles I've seen range from around 80,000 to 120,000 miles.

My question for anyone, is aside from the normal wear and tear all vehicles go through, are any major known issues the arise after certain milages specific to the KJ? From what I can tell there isn't a single "trending" issue that these vehicles go through.

For example, model year Nissan Xterras are know for a radiator failure which blows the transmission due to a fluid mixture. This happens right around 80,000 miles(conveniently right when the warranty expires). So replacing a radiator for $300 could prevent a $3000 transmission failure for another 80,00 miles.

I know buying any vehicle new or used comes with some risk. I just want to be an informed buyer.

BTW - Hope no one is offended I used the X word on your forum.

Hi Jen

The people on this forum are a very helpful bunch

I've had my 2.8 CRD for 6 years with very few issues. If you go for the CRD you'll know the first thing to look for - critically the timing belt change at 100k and preferably serp belt, pulley and tensioner change at the same time. You can also get a leak of trans fluid from the hose to,the cooler at the union because of corrosion at that point - also after several years. Not difficult to fix, just scary when you see trans fluid all over the place!

As you've been reading the forum, you'll know about other things that can give trouble, but in truth it rarely happens. Forums like these are populated by enthusiasts who get out and about and like to upgrade stuff

I would strongly recommend reading through Sir Sams noob guide on LOST if you get a CRD - it is a little goldmine of useful information.

Good luck in finding your Jeep, and hope to see you back!
