I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. So I thought I'd share the crossbars I fabricated for the 04 Libby today:

It was a pretty simple build. All I needed was two 48" threaded sections of 3/4" galvanized steel pipe, 4 u bolts, 4 galvanized steel end caps, and a a 8' of pipe insulation. They mount right where there are some holes on the OEM roof rails.

I also bought some black rustoleum. Maybe someone can give some insight as to whether I should apply the rustoleum.

Anyway, I highly recommend this set up to anyone who doesn't want to dish out a small fortune for crossbars.

Thought I'd post an update. I coated the bars and hardware (U Bolts) with rustoleum truck bed liner.

Should hold up pretty well. I'm sure they will be able to support a roof basket, when I get around to fabricating one.

Looks great. I'm looking forward to the thread about the roof basket.

That worked out well, are the pipes very boingy at all?
Too late now, but you could have put tee fittings in the middle, and sprinklers on the ends instead of caps. Hook up a garden hose to the center fitting, and your Jeep would be self-washing! ;)

Looks great. What length/size U bolts are you using? 3/4" conduit I assume?

Hey CactusJacked, believe me, now that you say it... I would definitely do that if I had another go at making crossbars. Quick, get that idea patented!

I believe the Ubolts are 3" I wanted em longer to fit lock washers if necessary and anything I may need to bolt on the same point up there.

And yes, it's 3/4" EMT.

Thanks for the write up/ idea. I am currently doing this pretty much the same way the U-bolts I'm using are 4 1/4" to give me a a few good tie down points for my kayak or anything else. And to let everyone know I was able to get all the parts at lowes for a total of $20 and some change.
