Good Question HJ. How much weight are you going to toss upon them?
One thing I can tell u is that I am glad I went with the OEM Jeep Cross bars.
Strong as all heck and I have the Rola heavy steel basket with another 60 lbs of gear in basket.
I like the sleek design of the Oem. They stay outside all the time & absolutely no corrosion too.
The only thing I did is throw grease in lock inside tubes.

I know many are going to say build your own make em lower..etc..
But I like to be able to clean the roof & with my wash mit on a broom handle, it slides perfectly under the OEM cross bars.

I bought these last August: Roof Rack Cross Bar Pair Rage Powersport

They look OK, have been durable (even hitting a concrete overhead hard enough to bang the whole works cockeyed), and have done the job. All things considered, if I had a do-over I would have made my own. (And will at some point.)

The locking feature is nice, especially if you plan to remove them often. (And don't want someone else to do it for you...) I installed mine with the tightening knobs to the inside, which was a real pain, but it will be a pain to get them back off, too, which was the whole idea. If you don't feel like fabbing up a custom set, I'd say for that price you can't go too far wrong. Even if you end up ******* your money away at least it will be a small puddle. ;)

I have a set I built and use in the winter for the ski rack- I like them to be not flush with the rails for ski/snow board binding clearance. But I had to tighten it a few times, it was kind of annoying dicking with wrenches and sockets and extensions in the cold lol. And I'd have to replace the hardware on it for this year, had to cut it off last year.

I know that you've heard the term you get what you pay for. I had a set similar to these and they worked great for what they were. They did bend over time and started rusting after a year.

Your best bet is to check Craigslist for oem bars.

I feel like a wuss. And here I thought I was suffering when I did my rear wiper blade when it was 8F. :icon_mad:

Junk. A friend had similar ones. No weight capacity, no quality in construction.

How. Would you feel if your clamp on bars came off on the highway, along with everything on them.

I would not want that.

I got a Thule system (cross bars, bike racks, and locks) used for $60. I've been using it every summer for four years now. It may be Chinese made, but it's definitely good quality stuff. They might go on the KJ this afternoon. If they do, I'll take some pictures. They're beefy enough to hold my fat (censored) when I'm strapping stuff to the roof.
