Sorry to create another thread, but this is a separate issue. I would like to put a remote start in my 2003 KJ with the SENTRY alarm system. I do not want an alarm/remote start system, I just want a very basic remote start system that will work in conjunction with the alarm. I am ok with using my 2nd key in a bypass module, so from all y'alls experience with remote start systems, what is an affordable, basic, yet reliable remote start system that will work with my KJ. Thanks for any and all help!

There are 3 factories in China that build all the remote starters in the US. Get a Crimestopper RS0 and it will activate with 3 pushes of the lock button on the OEM fob or go to an RS1 and get a single button for start. If you want 2way action go up to the RS7 which will page you on the fob when you're vehicle is running.

Thanks for the help, I guess the last question would be, what transponder bypass would I need due to my Jeep having the Sentry Key?

Idatalink and Fortin work with Crimestopper. The idatalink will require an account and a programmer cable to flash, the Fortin will have the program preloaded.

I have a 2005 Liberty and I was able to also get the Directed Electronics bypass 556CW to work for me.
Directions for use: http://www.directedstore.com/manuals/556CW.pdf
$15 at Amazon: click here

I figured it would actually be helpful to write something at Amazon so not only Jeep people see this, so I wrote what I think is my first ever Amazon review...

Works on a 2005 Liberty. If you are wondering if this will work for your car, but don't want to do the entire remote start installation to find out, you can test this device very easily on its own in your car. The only requirement is that you have 2 working keys to start your car. You cannot program a new key for your car on your own unless you have 2 keys. If you only have one, then you need to go to a dealer to have them do it. This will not work unless you already have 2 keys!

This device acts like the transponder in a key only when it is powered up. Powering this device is as simple as it gets. Only 2 wires, power and ground. So pretend it is a key, but it is missing the metal part that you stick into the car to start it. Just like a new key you have to program it. Here's how to do that:

1. Stick key#1 into the car and turn it to run, but don't start the car.
2. Count to at least 10.
3. Take key#1 out.
4. Within 10 seconds from taking key#1 out, put key #2 in and turn it to run.
5. Wait another 10 seconds and the car should chime more and the security light should be on. That means it is ready to learn new keys.
6. Turn key#2 to the off position, take it out, and wrap the plastic part completely in aluminum foil (this will block its transponder).
7. Power up this bypass unit and hold the small chip part near the key (you can get 12v from pin 16 on the diagnostic connector, grounds on pin 4 and 5, or you can get 12v and ground from the cigarette adapter).
8. Put key#2 back in the ignition and turn it to run while holding the powered up chip near the key. (Make sure you get steps 6,7, and 8 done in ten seconds or less. I had an adapter for the cigarette lighter that let me just plug it in real quick.)
9. Wait. After about 10 seconds the car should chime and the security light should light up. This means it learned the bypass module just like it would do for a key. Done.

How to test that it worked for sure?

1. Keep key#2 wrapped in foil and try to start the car.
2. It should start but stall after 2 seconds and the security/VTSS light will be on. (This is what my Jeep did. Also shows the security system works correctly.)
3. Try starting it again, but now hold the powered up bypass module chip near the key.
4. If it starts now, even though key#2 is wrapped in foil with its transponder chip blocked, but the car is able to recognize the bypass chip as a valid "key" ... then you are ready to install your remote start system.

So does anyone know about a T-harness or whatever you want to call an inline connector made for the ignition switch that will fit a 2005 Liberty? That would make this installation quite a bit easier and the going rate for them seems to be $25 or less, some only $7. But I can't find one that fits this Jeep. Anyone?

There is no T-Harness for a KJ but there is in the KK and other 07-up Chrysler vehicles. In fact, you don't need a remote stater to do a remote start in 07-up (not KJ) Jeeps.

I can make my own harness (which I would rather do than soldering into the car's harness) if I knew connector and pin part numbers. For GM parts the service manuals tell you the weather pack part number and Mouser.com sells all the parts to build everything. What does Chrysler use? The service manual doesn't have this information.

You just need to tap wires to install the remote starter (and the appropriate bypass) no need to overthink this.

I know you're right. I'm also good at soldering and own an adjustable temp controlled iron ... but I like over thinking it. I also like not working longer than I have to in a cold garage. It would be nice to just plug this thing in and see if it works before cutting into the harness, or avoiding cutting it at all.

Plus, it would be nice to know how to find connector part numbers incase something else breaks later on down the road.

Dealers are the absolute mot expensive option. I probably won't need this info since I'm not planning to do a lot to this car because it's my girlfriend's. It would have been nice to find this info. I already installed the remote start, directly soldering into all the lines.

Why does everyone hate Bulldog so much?

I am using the factory key fob, with the Bulldog. Press the lock button 3 times and the car starts. I think all the remote start kits probably have that if the Bulldog has it.

This is the 3rd Bulldog unit I've installed now. The first one was still working fine in my Malibu after 4 years when I sold it. The one in my Regal is 2 years old and its still working. Each time I've used thier website for wiring instructions they have always been correct for all 3 cars. The only complaint I have is that their instruction manual for programming the unit could be better. I have no failures, 3 for 3. They are cheap. They can use other bypass modules, not their own. I've emailed their tech support twice last week and got responses both times (just asking if they sell a T-harness, they don't for this year, 2005).

I understand that they may not be the best remote start company out there, but I just wanted to say that I have had good experiences with them over the last 7 or 8 years now.

Also, if there were a How-to written for another remote, then I might have followed your, or anyone else's instructions. But I couldn't find one. So I did what anyone does when they can't find instructions for something unfamiliar, I installed something I am familiar with.

I'd be happy to write a how-to since I have already done most of the heavy documenting in the google-docs link I shared above. If anyone has any questions about installing a remote start, just shoot me a PM or email.
