Hi,

I'm trying to purchase a remote start (and bypass module) for a 2006 Jeep Liberty Limited but not sure what the best is to get that will come with DIY instructions (I will be installing myself).

I've read many threads here and on the internet and I have yet to find something that comes with decent instructions. I'm capable of doing the work (provided I can identify the wires) and will not allow someone to install it for me.

I've previously installed a Bulldog remote start in another vehicle which worked, but was not crazy about the quality of the system. They were good about the instructions but I would rather get something of better quality.

Can someone recommend a remote start and bypass (or other needed parts for the vehicle) that will fit these constraints?

Thanks!

With the OEM remote start is the bypass still needed, or is it included? I can't seem to find it online right now.

Is it possible to get one of the Jeep keys that has the started button built into it?

Can you tell me how much and any part numbers? Where I could buy it or is it a dealer only item?

The "plug and play" ones I have seen were only for 2007 up.

Is there a reason to get the OEM one? Do others not work?

I called the dealer to inquire about the OEM one. Apparently it is a two part system (install kit and module kit). The install kit apparently is no longer made by Chrysler and there is one dealership who shows it in inventory in the USA. Not sure if they have it or not yet.

So if I am to get these two parts plus install the total would be $519 + tax! I suppose I could hire someone for a year to start the car for me at the same price :(

I think the OEM is out of the running. So back to my original question, any good DIY brands out there?

Just go aftermarket; the OEM one is teh suk. If you aren't good at remote starters, pay someone else. You'll need a bypass for it to work, and to program the bypass, you'll need access to the interwebz, a programmer and a dealer account. You can buy a Fortin module which will come preprogrammed but your remote started has to be compatible. If any of this doesn't make 100% sense, pay someone to install it.

The Fortin module supports Crimestopper and Crimestopper supports OEM FOB integration.

Kooler than Mudd.

The only part I didn't understand was " the OEM one is teh suk" :Frustrated:

Having a dealer account may be an issue unless they are available through the the interwebz? I would be ok going with a Crimestopper compatible unit to avoid the trouble as I just want something that will start the car.

I called a local place and they said they can install on for about $280 (+$30 to get one that works with the factory key fob). I asked specifically about the Jeep and he said there is no special drama and he installed 2 this week.

My biggest issue is that I trust no one to do installations as I know from personal experience there are a lot of hacks out there cutting wiring harnesses and using butt connectors. Typically it is too late once the work is done. I think I may have to check this shop out - the reviews online seem positive overall.

Why is it that everyone says to get OEM? What's better about it?

Not sure, I got a Viper unit that's fully programmable and I love it. Install instructions were crap though. I decided to have Best Buy install it, and I stood over the installer like a drill sargeant to make sure he did the wiring properly.

I just wish the oem kit would work with a stick shift. :(
I did the OEM route on the wife's 05 Stratus... not inexpensive but so simple to install even the worst window licker couldn't foul it up.
I put a CompuSTAR unit in my Neon... that was un-fun to say the least. Fantastic unit but it'd be easier to build a Saturn V rocket from scratch than install it again.
I'll do it again for the jeep, but I'd like to avoid it.
