I've increased MPG's a bit.

So this may not look awesome but consider this... Lifted 2 3/4. Larger tires, HD OME suspension, bike rack. 117,000 Miles.

I was previously only able to get about 17ish per gallon in an hour trip to Baltimore from where I am. For the past week I have been consistently in the low to mid 20's hwy. and 17 city type driving.

Here is what I have changed. I don't believe it's any one thing but a mix of all that helps. I have removed the AEM Brute Force intake I had and re-installed the factory air box. From what i heard it was very well engineered to get every last bit of performance out of it. I have had hypertech's Max Energy program installed since the winter. I am using synthetic oils in everything and am religious about tire pressure. I have added a fresh air intake from the front headlight area to an opening I made in the factory "snorkel" intake. I have added simple engine restore to the oil most recently this is where I saw the main uptick in MPG's...

So take from this what you like. This has been my experience so far.

You're pretty much on par with MPGs. On Avg I get between 16-18 in the city and 19-22 HWY. I have a ScanGauge II to calculate my mileage. The best I ever recorded was 22.8MPG going @ 65MPH.

I got an 06 with 45k on it. Everything is still stock. Changed out the Factory SR-A's last year for a set of BFG Rugged Terrains That I rotate every 3000-4000 miles. (about once year for me)

Every since I got the ScanGauge I started to watch my led foot and that helped me increase my MPGs.

To the floor at almost every take off just to see the scan gauge read 5-6 MPGs, :favorites37:but on the road, 75 mph, cruise set and 21.5-22 all day long

But then mine is all stock

damn, I want 20mpg. My last tank from full to the light being on empty(took about 18 gallons to fill it back up from there) I made it 262 miles total.

I put 12 gallons in last fill up ($40) and since I've only been driving it very short distances around town I've gotten 111 miles on it at an eighth of a tank atm. It's lasted me over 2 weeks though so no real complaints here

0.o that is SO bad. Even in the dead of winter driving around Ewing (I go to TCNJ) I don't get that kind of mileage.

Unless you mean an eighth of a tank used...?

Another neat thing, and I don't know... but, I 95 to 98have had the air conditioning on full time. It has been really hot in my area. I have seen while on I-95 a 111 degree road air temp. and usually around 95 - 98 degrees as par for the course lately. So that puts a bit more strain on the systems too.

Hey listen, I'd like to know of course if anyone has had success with any other "mods" or techniques. I know that lifted and weighted down KJ's will never get good MPG's, but I'm trying things to try to help.

My wife and I just bought a 2013 diesel Jetta 6-speed. She's over 40mpg's and I'm jealous. Oh well headscratch.gif

Was sitting at about 18.5 mpg average. But I'm up to 19 mpg on the last tank since replacing the vapor cannister which had been giving me a P0441 CEL for months on end. Probably ought to reset the system to see what I get on the next tank.

Wow, that sux! If I do the same from full to fumes, I get 350 miles-combined city/ hwy.

Yeah, I've never gotten to see 350 on a tank of gas lol. Since my last post the best I've gotten was 296 from full till the light came on. Seems lately my gas milage has gotten even worse the past couple of months. Changed out filter etc so I am going to do the plugs here soon and see if that helps. My real test comes this weekend when I drive to Minnesota and back.

I have notice if I drive on the interstate to work with my windows/sunroof open my mileage is WAY worse. Not as bad as with the AC on though. If I run the AC I can just watch the gas needle as it moves down like it's a crazy in person time lapse lol

I do, 320 to 360 miles per tank, all day every day. That's 17 to 19 mpg rain or shine. If you account for the tank holding roughly 19 gallons with fill-ups ranging anywhere from 17.x to 18.x gallons, there's my difference in mileage, I basically get almost no difference driving 90% Highway or 90% City. I've had this car for over 4 years, had different tires, 3 significantly different commutes. 300 mile trips to the snow up into the mountains, same gas mileage. It's weird. I'm convinced if I had a tow hook and brought a boat somewhere, I'd get 18mpg... My 99 wrangler is the same way.

I get 18-18.5 with a 5X8 heavy built trailer with garden tractor, lawn mower, tools / firewood etc on with running in overdrive at 75 MPH
Oh and the heavier than normal aftermarket steel wheels with 265-70-16 tires on the trailer

Does it help MPG shutting OD off? Been curious about that. I just leave it on but always wondered if shutting it off would improve or make it worse..(or not change it at all)

I switch my OD on and off all the time, running back roads/two lane black top etc under 50 MPH or so its off, around town in traffic its off. Once I'm up to say 55-60 its turned on and I'm cruising down the highway.
Of course when I get into the hills with a trailer hooked on its off and cruising at 60 or so easy

That's exactly what I've heard others say as well. Might have to try shutting it off around town and seeing how it does.
