I have a 02 kj an hear some noise coming from the front end. Crawled underneath and I looke at the axle and the condition looks good but there I can move the cv end closest to the motor in and out some and left and right. Does that make sense? Should I replace the cv axle or the piece that goes into the diff

Little more info please
number of miles
what type of lift
how high are you sitting (middle of wheel bottom of flare)
things like that
Could be a number of things but with more information we could possibly narrow it down

I'm going to reiterate this for like the fifth time within the last few weeks, how's the CV on the front driveshaft...?

I've seen more blown driveshaft CVs on the internet in the last few weeks than naked ladies. This is a problem... :Hump:

Well here's the first one: http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f196/metal-noise-kj-53963/index2.html

In there I posted a tutorial on how to check the joint. Check it out! Videos and pics and all.

Here's the second: http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f196/chain-jingle-sound-while-driving-53979/index2.html

And here's the third: http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f196/need-help-weird-rattle-54010/index2.html

Driveshaft CVs like to make lots of different noises. The easiest way to figure that it's the driveshaft CV on the T-case end of the shaft is that MOST Libbys have this problem at some point in their lifespan.

Post up a video of you testing out the play that you found in the front differential end of the shaft so we can see if it's normal or not! While you're add it, give us some pics/vids of the other side of the shaft too.

If you come here as someone new and have not encountered these noises before, you're going to ask the question. We've learned that most people don't search first... so we either answer the questions or not. ;) Regardless of how many times its been answered within the last week.

Yes indeed. It's just so funny how repetitive this issue has been, specifically in the last couple weeks. :emotions34:

Everything goes in cycles if you follow it long enough.
Problems/topics etc all come up die off for a few weeks then are back again
Of course since there isn't a search function .......................:icon_twisted::shrug::killit:

Uh-Oh! #-o I've been going out of my way to find the most active topics posted and making my own new post on the exact same topic only worded differently. (deadhorse)

I've been doing this all wrong.

I looked at the links on these and i saw that these wernt related to the problem im having. My passengerside front axle is where i think the problem is. not the driveshaft. i have a video on my home computer i will post this evening. when i put my hand on the passenger side cv joint i can move it in and out about 3/4 maybe and wiggle it left and right. i think the axle popped out some when i had it lifted. maybe. i will post the video this evening

Unless you have an aftermarket CV in there and its one of the junk ones from Autophoney then highly unlikely it came out doing a lift. Unless for some reason you removed the spindle to do the lift.
NOW it could very well be the CV/ Intermediate shaft since they do wear out, since lifted its sitting at a different angle and the splines are not running in the same place so could get noise, extra play possibly.
Easy enough to pop it out and check it . Takes more time sitting here typing "I have a noise" than it does to remove it and check it.

By the way .............
what type of oil filter should I use :Moon::gathering:

That's a good amount of play. I believe you can pull the CV shafts (and intermediate shaft) and drive to see if the noise goes away.

thats a good idea, i will work on that this weekend and see if it helps. i will first take the cv out and drive it to check for changes and then the intermediate shaft if the noise still exists?
