Not a fan of hack jobs, you're cutting into the body and could possibly weaken the body. To me not worth it to run a tire where you may only get an extra 1/4 inch clearance. Proper lift/32s/4.10s works great and you don't have to get into a lot of extra expensive. But you you have deep enough pockets go for it
Just beware that 33s and stock gearing ( until you regear) is going to be a real dog, no over drive, will run hotter etc

Fair enough, so 32s will clear without having to cut and clear?

These are coilover shocks, so you still use whatever springs. These give you extra carrying capacity when towing, helps the springs support the weight. Ride is great or I think it is all the time. When I hook up any of my trailers loaded it doesn't squat down at all stays level

What is the link or part number to those shocks you run? I'm about to run 4" springs in the rear and would like to run those.shocks as well.

Hi guys,

Mine is a 2006 CRD (Right Hand drive as I live in UK) with OME Nitrocharger struts front and rear, 790 springs Front and 948 rear.
I've had 12mm/0.5in top plates fitted and 10mm thick washers at the clevis.
I run 31x10.5 M. Thompson Baja with no rubbing after some Trimming but no real Body Trimming. I am at the moment sitting at 22" in front and 21.5" in the rear.

I've ordered the OME N132L struts and 2 pairs of Top Isolators for the rear from the US as in UK unfortunately we can't find anything for the KJ.

I would love to lift it at just under 23" as Tom was saying earlier to stay on the safe side as I don't want to destroy my CVs as I know they are shorter on the Diesel.

What do you guys think I am going to gain in the rear with that set up? I am hoping to get 1in but I am not sure.

Can I add more 10mm washers to my clevis in order to level the front and how far you guys think it is safe to lift the clevis? I've read that guys put 3 rings at the clevis but that doesn't give me a precise measure.

I would like if possible gain also on tyre size so do you think I could run with 32" Tyres with that set up? Any idea of how I could improve still my lift without replacing the axles and spending $1000s ?

I know it's a lot of questions so I thank you in advance for taking the time to reply, even if it's to only one of them.

Cheers,

Chris

the 3 ring clevis is 3 2 inch conduit nuts that are 1/8" thick each. total = 3/8" = 0.375 "= 9.525 mm. so your pretty much there with your 10mm clevis spacer.

as for your top plates, are you sure their 0.5 inches thick and not 0.25. There isn't much left of that bolt when you fit that thick of a top plate and your numbers aren't adding up to 22 inches.

with 790's and basically at least 3 clevis plus a jba 0.25 top plate you should be around 1/2 - 3/4" higher then 22, even with the diesel.

Hi Cardu,

Thanks for your reply. Yes I am 100% sure that my top plates are 12mm thick as I had them made for me and I brought them to the garage who fitted them with the new OME kit. The guy told me afterwards that he really struggled to fit them there but believe me the plates are fitted on the top of the struts.
As for the Springs that the garage fitted there is a sticker labelled on each spring. The front ones are definitely 790 and the rear ones 948.
If I should be 3/4 in higher with that set up it's either that my front steel bumper with the Winch is too heavy or my way of measuring is not correct.

My wheels have centre caps so I take the measure from the middle of the centre cap to the bottom of the plastic fender flare. I will ask my Girlfriend to take some pics when I re-measure today and I will post them for Front and Rear.

If this is the correct way to measure then it's a bit of a mistery.

You're pushing it trying to get to 23 on a CRD. I'd stay at 22 or where ever you are and call it good. Plus even though you have a CRD 32s are going to hurt mileage etc

Thanks for the word Tom,

I am going to fit the Long Travel N132L at the rear with the Isolators and I will re-measure.

I enclose some pics of the way I take my measurements now just in case it's not the right way I would be very grateful for any help.

And again if anyone could advise me of anything els in order to improve
even it's just a little please don't hesitate to let me know.

Yep - that's the way to measure. You can gain or lose a little on the measurement trying to determine what part of the flare radius to use.

You have a good looking KJ there! Did you paint it yourself? Kinda reminds me of safari vehicles I've seen on TV...

Hi guys,

Thanks for your messages. Good to know that some of you appreciate the look of my KJ.
It must have something because I even wan the 1st price for best equiped Jeep at the European Jeepers Jamboree in France 3 weeks ago! Amongst superb Wranglers, CJs, TJs & Cherokees with huge wheels I couldn't believe it !! In Europe and in UK there are not many KJs properly prepared so the judges were impressed. Lol
The Paint is the original Black but I paid a guy who makes adverts and publicity on company cars, vans and trucks to design a camo style for my Jeep.
As this is made of vinyl patches if I get tired of it after a while I can ask him to remove it and either try something else or just stay full black as it used to be.

I enclose 1 pic taken last week with my new A bar (now painted) but if you want to see more look for my albums on here. There are pics of before and after modifs.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks TwoBobsKJ,

I am really flattered ! The rock sliders were made to measure by the same guy who built my front bumper. If I wanted to buy them from the states due to the weight the International shipping would have been really expensive and the Flipping UK Taxman would have charged me around 28% of the total cost: the parts + Shipping.

Over here 70% of 4x4 are Land Rover & co as it is the national Brand so preparing a Jeep is difficult to find the gear and expensive but I am really happy with my KJ. Only trying to get a little bit more than the 22" I am sitting at the moment that's all.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks it's really nice to know that you guys appreciate the time and the effort involved. Lots of people over here think you just buy Jeeps already prepared.

I'm a soldier stationed over in Germany and its such a limiting factor being here and trying to work out what you can and cant order, which places will ship APO and how much hassle it will end up being. It's going to be a big challenge when it comes time to hunt for aftermarket bumpers
