Re-treaded mud tires

My first Jeep build, first installed a 2.5" lift, now have these tires installed.

I tried researching about these tires before I bought them. I found a few reviews on retreaded road tires, but not many about retreaded mud terrains. I found many people asking about retreaded mud terrains, only to get a sarcastic response in return. I decided to go for it..

(I have access to a tire machine, so no mounting and balancing costs for me)

To make the decision even harder, they come with no tread-wear warranty. The tires were each shipped with a little note wrapped to them, indicating they should be computer balanced with the 'Static' setting only.

They show no signs of being a retreaded tire. It looks like they retread the entire tire, including the sidewall.

Road Noise (1=loud 10=quiet)
I give them a 5. 0-35mph they are fairly quiet, but anything over 50mph you need to turn up the radio a little bit. :Big Laugh:

Dry Pavement Traction (1=poor 10=great)
I give them an 7. I don't really drive hard enough on pavement to give an honest answer here, but I can say, I slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting a deer, and they didn't lock up, even with a firm foot on the pedal. Entering and exiting the freeway at high speeds, they seem pretty stable.

Wet Pavement Traction (1=poor 10=great)
I give them a 7. Seemed pretty stable on wet pavement. I didn't try to 'test' them out, however.

Loose gravel (1=poor 10=great)
I give them a 9. Much more traction than the old Goodyear Wranglers.

Mud (1=poor 10=great)
I give them an 8. Spent plenty of time in mud. I managed to get it stuck only once, only because of a poor decision on my part. I knocked off two points because the lugs seem to retain some mud, resulting in lower traction.

Rock Crawling (1=poor 10=great)
Haven't tried it yet...

Tread wear (1=poor 10=great)
I give them a 7. I've been running these tires for roughly 8k miles. The outer lugs arent as "crisp" as they were when first installed. Also, one tire shows a little "rock rash" (lack of a better term) with a some 1/4 chunks of rubber missing out of a couple lugs. This also could have been my driving style.

Appearance (1=poor 10=great)
I give them a 7. The tread is different than the picture on the website. I think it was modified to accommodate the specific tire size. I think it looks a little better. It looks much better than the original Goodyears. Some appearance improvements I would like to see are: option of white letters on at least one side, and a sidewall tread pattern of some sort.

I will add more pictures when the weather clears up These ones are pretty crappy. Also, I'm going out this weekend, so I might add to the review as well.

**Update: No fault of the specific tire, but the 245/75 size on a 4 cyl liberty requires every last bit of power the engine has just to keep rolling. 4wd Hi no longer has a purpose. 4lo is the only option offroad. Also, I find myself driving in 4th gear most of the time, as 5th gear can barely keep speed below 60mph.

Great review. Those will probably be my next tires unless somehow I can convince the wife to splurge for Duratracs. Is that last picture when you got it stuck in the mud, or just a photo op?

Good luck with them, watch for tread separation
Last two sets I've seen here had separation's in at least one of the set of 4
Quality control is going down hill some

I just got these tires in the mail today. I had a set of Duratracs I got off cragislist and whent to install them. The side wall had a huge chunch slit in it on one tire. You couldn't even tell really when the chuck was even with the tire. Ended up having to order these and just gave the 4 duratracs to a friend to do whatever with.

If anyone does plan to order you can get 5% off right now with the code 5PERCENT but it expires the end of this month. One of the reps when I was going to order said I was nice to her so she gave me that code and said it's good until the 31'st.

They are good tires,wear well. One took an ounce to balance,the rest took less.

That has been my issue just from calling around. i can't find any place that will mount and balance them using the static method. Every place I've called shoots me down when I mention that.

There are 9 jeeps....yes....nine jeeps in my local jeep club that have been running them forever it seems. One of them has over 200k on treadwright tires. No promblems I've ever heard from them. They love them. I had a set on my kayak trailer.

But what do I know?

I ran Guard Dog's for 30,000ish miles. I liked them much better than actual MT/R's. Didn't chunk in the rocks, wore really well, and were quiet (relatively) for the first 15,000 miles or so. All in all a pretty good experience. Just don't wear 'em down to nothing; mine literally came apart at the seams. :D

As far as getting them mounted and balanced, go to some mom and pop place or better yet a Llanteria if you live near a place with any sizable latino population. They usually don't seem to care if they are retreads. Big chain shops have liability nonsense to deal with.

After driving to 4 places I finally got mine on. Everywhere refused to because they wasn't stock size.

So far the ride quality is so much better and it feels smoother. They ride really nice and look good but I haven't had much to go by so far.

They ride really good compared to what I was on lol. The ride is much stiffer though since they are 10 ply but the Jeep feels more planted to the road than before. So far I like them a lot though. All together I paid $450 shipped for 4 of them. Not sure why I didn't get 5. All 3 tires combined came to around 215lbs.

I've heard many people say they are loud but I was actually dissapointed. They are way quiter than I was expecting. I'd say no louder than my SRA's where (of course the front's where cupping from before I got the suspension done so they was a bit louder than normal). The only difference is the sound itself not the volume of it. It's a whirling higher pitched sound but it's not anywhere what I would consider close to being loud. Driving on the interstate the sound of the wind with the windows open is louder than the tires. driving city streets form the road to the sidewalk I bet the person on the sidewalk wouldn't be able to hear anything as I drove past.. Not sure if that will change as they wear or not.

I retract what I said earlier. After getting some good drive time with the tires on the interstate they are kind of loud.

I can also tell a pretty signifigant power change with them that is a bit annoying. I can't imagine running 265/75's without a regear.
