I have always been thinking about selling the jeep and getting something more economical since I drive 60 miles a day for work but I think what I would sell the jeep for I wouldn't find something as nice as my liberty. I just rolled 100k and the engine runs so smooth, I fixed everything on the suspension except that damn clunk I get on the front end. I have an 09 corolla xrs too but I hate putting miles on it because it is such a good car. It's like a Mac daddy corolla, it has the interior of an is250. What do you think would be a good price for the jeep?

It all depends on what modifications you have done to it, any problems, work that's been done on it, regularly maintained, etc. etc.

I have been watching the value at Official Kelley Blue Book New Car and Used Car Prices and Values for a while for my KJ and it seems like it took a plunge lately. Don't know if it the 7 years or 153K miles or the fact that it's newly announced replacement (Cherokee) is much more efficient and user friendly.

It's my experience that if a vehicle is not stock or the repair records are not complete you will be lucky to sell it to a private owner.

A CarMax appraisal is another option.

I don't ever agree with the website car values since used car values are strange now. I get offers for 6k which sounds good, but I won't find another car for 8k that will be as reliable as the jeep.

I don't want to put the miles on the corolla because less miles equals better price, it's cheaper for me to put the miles on the jeep than grow the milage on the Toyota. If that makes sense... I'd rather have a jeep with 130k miles than a really nice corolla with 90k miles

It makes sense, but what point is having a fuel efficient car if your not going to use it when you need it?

I agree with that - but I do use the websites for a guide. That 6k might be as good as it gets though, Jeeps are not at the top of the resale value list. BTW Consumer Reports says that it does not pay to get rid of a vehicle for gas mileage. The mpg difference isn't worth a car payment.

I do new home sales here and I keep wanting to sell it for a 2002 Cadillac dhs with 60k miles and put a few bucks in my pocket... It's strange in my part of Florida I see tons of older liberties. I just don't think I will find another car in this price range that will be as reliable.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't get the idea of worrying about resale value so much. Sure, it's important to take care of things but, if not to drive the hell out of it, why does one buy a vehicle?

I have been using my vehicle for my job for 33 years. The indecision of what to drive and minimizing expenses never goes away. Is your drive a commute or do you go from site to site?

If you drive it until it is dust that might work out. But if it comes to a life change or hard times you might wish you made a better choice.

I noticed this too. I used to watch criagslist for KJs under 5K there would be one high mileage one every once in a while. Now they are on the weekly, I've seen a couple under 120K. I just make decision to keep driving it easier.

I still don't understand the logic on not driving the Toyota to retain is value. 1) Toyota's seem to hold their value regardless of mileage. 2) If you like it so much do you plan on selling it? 3)Does amount of money your spending of gas equal to the depreciation on the Toyota?

Seriously? You buy a Corolla TO put miles on it, because it's a bland, milquetoast economy car...you have a 35mpg car and you're driving the Jeep instead and you're worried about fuel economy, you're just not that bright

It's a $25k corolla, it's an xrs that is loaded with everything. Basically what I am saying is that I have a nice car that I want to keep nice, the jeep I have just to have. I commute 50 miles to and from work and to corporate office which is another 30 miles away once in a while. While the jeep is semi reliable but I worry that keeping it longer more expensive things will start to break. I just hate putting 2000 miles a month on the corolla and within a year have as many miles as the jeep. What I have been trying to do is rotate the driving around and keep my fingers crossed that nothing major breaks on the jeep.
I do new home sales so I drive around on construction sites and the jeep is nice for that, but try to get a bigger older couple into a lifted jeep isn't the easiest either.
I see all these Liberties for sale on CL with 130k for like 4500$ and I just don't get it. I think Used car values are strangely strong. If I sold the xrs tomorrow i would be able to get 15000 for it, which is awesome because I only paid 8500 for it :)

Also the corolla has a stupid 2.4l engine instead of the 1.8 so I average 26, which isn't huge...

Um...OK.
And here ThunderbirdJunkie stupidly thought that the whole reason you bought a Corolla is to have a boring car that'll go 250,000 miles and then throw it in the trash can and buy another.
