I just recently went through all this, twice, so I thought to add a post as the forums were very helpful to me :)

I purchased 245-75-16's duratracs on 16" black steel wheels.

(The best setup in my experience is a 7" wheel with 4" backspacing and it's been said over an over on the forum)

So, I switched the wheels out that came with my truck that were 265-70-16 on wheels that were 8" wide with a fake bead lock...those wheels are too wide with the wheel width alone and then with the bead dealio it bumps it out way to far so that you can scrub the wheel on rocks and curbs.

Back to the 245's. I loved the tires but with the 16" wheels once I when on some trails I noticed that my tires seemed too thin and in the C load range really flattened out under my CRD liberty once aired down on the trail (even at 20lbs). I think the load range E would be fine under there. I had load range E before and thought I would improve the ride with the C, but it really depends on the tire IMO.

So, my third set of wheels and tires are 15 x 7 soft 8's with 31 x 10.50 x 15 Firestone MT's...I picked these up because the store near be gave me road hazard and lifetime balancing/rotation and since I have a lifetime alignment it made sense.

The 31" tires are a little less than 1/2" taller and about an inch wider...it really improves the look to me and the function is there because there's more meat under there...I would have stuck with the Duratracs for the better snow rating and the obvious siping in the tread.

So, stick with steel wheels and you are good...4" back spacing will be the best to avoid rubbing especially on the CRD as we can't lift as much.

First two photos are with 31s and others are the 245's. I added an upper spacer when I did the 31s for extra clearance. I am also re-gearing to 4:10s because I tow in the mountains...The 31s take a noticeable amount more power in the hills towing, so that's something to consider.

Could I get any 15x7 with a backspace of 4" and be fine? also if I find a 15x7 with 4" backspace and put 31's on it will they need a spacer in order not to rub?

What i'm getting at is i want to put 15" wheels with 31's on my liberty but don;t want to mess with a lift or spacers

Thanks

When your not towing, what do you think of the power then?
